I am pretty tempted by the 512 GB Crucial M4 at Newegg for $549, but at this point I'm still pretty happy with the Momentus XT in my 2009 13" MBP - I am inclined to wait until it conks out before moving to an SSD.

It may very well be THE best investment you can make, with the most notable performance improvement. Go for it.

Yeah, maybe. Honestly there is no good reason I couldn't get by with a 256 GB drive, but I like the ability to not worry about drive space - my laptop is my primary computer so I like the idea of having 512 GB so I don't have to think about storage space. Honestly I have never had a laptop last much more than 2 years but my MBP is still in amazing condition after nearly 3, and I just put a new battery in it, so it might well make sense to throw in an SSD. If the rest of the computer dies after I am out of AppleCare I can always swap it into a new machine.
