Hey guys!

I'm about to buy a new machine based on Ivi Bridge Core i5 and I'm undecided about the SSD.
I want a 128 or 120 GB SSD for windows and one or two games.
These are the ones I'm considering:

- Samsung 830
- OCZ Vertex 4

Which one do you guys recommend?

Did you mean the samsung 830? AFAIK there is no such a thing as a samsung 330

That is probably why you didn't get answers...
people looked and thought "mmm, I don't know this so I better let someone else answer" (is my guess anyways).

Personally I would recommend you get the intel 520 over both of those. for reliability.

I know that one too but it's more expensive. I'm already cutting on RAM due to budget constraints... (I was going with 16GB but I had to downgrade my list of components to only 8GB)

Out of the 2 that you listed, I would absolutely take the samsung 830. That OCZ recommendation had to either be a joke or was written by an OCZ employee. It is on par with, and probably a bit better than, the intel 520 series. It is better than the crucial m4, plextor m3, and every other ssd in the world in either speed, reliability, or both.

^ Yea Id stay away, horrible reliability record. They can be the fastest but a dead drive is transferring 0 Mb/s

That used to be the case with their ssd's, but with the vertex 4's it's a different story. Read the reviews.

I've looked at the newegg reviews. Here are the percentage of below-average (1- or 2-egg) newegg reviews:

6.5% Samsung 830
15.6% OCZ Vertex 4

The Vertex 4 is more than twice as likely to result in an unhappy review as is a Samsung 830.

The Samsung 830 is the clear and obvious choice out of those two.

Most everyone knows that OCZ should be avoided like the plague.

The Samsung 830 is the best SSD on the market. I've got them in a few machines now and they're outstanding and i don't buy anythig else.

^ yep so there is no telling what will happen. Maybe it will be reliable they are using an Indilinx controller now rather then the Sandforce controllers in their Vertex 1,2 and 3 models.

Only time will tell, and honestly I would not gamble for a few more mb/s for a possible headache, there are many great SSD's on the market today, just pick one thats not OCZ for now.

I agree. OCZ has been so bad for so long, that they'd have to put together a near-perfect record for about 2 years before I would even consider buying an OCZ product.

The early news, other than the terribad destructive flash that came out a few weeks after launch, is actually pretty decent on the vertex 4. But, as mentioned, OCZ has a very poor reputation for initial launch reliability. Samsung, OTOH, has a superb quality reputation, and the 830 is still one of the fastest ssd's in the consumer market.

There is no such animal as the Indillix controller. They write FW for a marvelle controller, they will not even be honest about that.

OCZ Vertex 4. It's extremely fast and my experience with the drives have been phenomenal. The hate towards OCZ is pretty crazy around here. Maybe the SandForce stuff had issues, but the latest stuff is fine.

I also like Intel drives. They cost a lot more, but Intel's validation + being able to cherry pick NAND makes it worth it if you've got the dough.

Get the Samsung 830. The Vertex 4 might be faster but OCZ has a bad reputation for a very good reason, they have mislead they customers repeatedly and have an atrocious record of reliability on their drives. They might have magically turned it around with the OCZ Vertex 4 but the recent Indilinx/Marvel chipset thing on the Octane reminds us its the same company up to the same tricks.

Buy Samsung, stick the drive in and you'll likely use it until its obsolete. You don't need to worry about OCZ's bullshit.

How would a better controller fix their history of customer abuse?
