Dear All,

I was thinking on upgrading My Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420 (1141-7FA) for an SSD, considering 750GB 5400rpm drive already too slow for my work. So i bought Corsair Force GT 120GB, take off the old one and in with the new. Turn it on, and walah, here I am in the POST all day long, er, it won't pass POST. Search for a while and turns out lenovo have a whitelist about this (except for RAM i presume because I also added some ram in). Damn

I googled again today and found out someone out there with lenovo TE 15" can upgrade with samsung 830 SSD and other said that intel SSD has the most compatible rate with lenovo

Do you guys have any experience upgrading SSD for Lenovo Laptops ? Any recommendation because i'm afraid not only about the brand but also with a specific spec and chip. Samsung is hardly found in my place so i'm thinking maybe Intel or other, any suggestions ?

I haven't installed anything yet. Plug it in, turn it on and it won't pass POST. Should Corsair Force GT be compatible with Lenovo ?

i dont have any exp.with lenovo per say.
but this is what I learnt yesterday,
in case of laptops, its better to buy similar SSD which manufacturer gives.
like my dell e6520 is sold with samsung SSD,so i should use samsung based SSD,
thats my idea about ssd.

I suggest using intel SSD in lenovo.
as thats the one they use themselves.
did you try this ssd in other systems to confirm, its not culprit?
maybe you got bad ssd.

Hrm. That's odd. Have you been in the BIOS/UEFI and verify that it can see the drive...? (press the blue thinkvantage button at startup)

Also you will need either the recovery DVD's that you (hopefully) burned before you removed the original drive or a Win7 install DVD + a valid licence key...

I have never had any problems putting new HDD/SSD's in Lenovo machines...

I've switched two lenovo's out. One with an M4 and one with a Samsung 830. I do not think it would make any differance in brand. Something is not right....(E430s)

Drive is recognized normally, I set boot to DVD-ROM, but still won't pass POST. May another try be different :)

From what I browsed yesterday, claimed functional is M4, another one is successful upgrade is Samsung 830, and another post entry that says Intel is the most compatible for Lenovo. Maybe i'm just out of luck :)

Do be careful about what you're trying to boot. There are options to boot to both Legacy BIOS and UEFI. Under Startup in the BIOS, the UEFI/Legacy boot field should be set to "UEFI Only". In the BOOT menu, make sure your DVD-drive is at the top of the list. Hope this helps... :)

On a side note if you by accident install Windows 7 in legacy BIOS mode, the power-control software goes completely haywire...
