SSD > Raptor?

What, if any, of the current crop of SSDs are faster than a Raptor/Velociraptor HDD?

(Faster in terms of load times, gaming, PhotoShop apps, write times, etc.)

If not, when are SSDs anticipated to be faster than such?

The Intel line of SLCs and MLC's are extremely fast, but you pay $$$ for them. I don't have a link, but IIRC they are releasing more SKU's this year and with GB's. This should bring the price down of their existing SSD's.

Well, my thinking is why buy a Raptor now if in about a year I can buy a faster, cooler, quieter SSD with equal or more (150 GB) capacity?

Is my logic right or wrong?

the intel X25-M and X25-E are the only SSDs on the market faster than a velociraptor.

there titan is sometimes faster, but has stuttering on other times, making it inconsistent.

It'd be a good approach imo to buy a fast 1tb drive (samsung f1 or caviar black, almost identical speed, but sammy is cheaper) for your main drive now. It will be a tad slower than your raptor, but you should be able to sell the raptor to pay for it (with $ left over even maybe?). later in the year, when SSD matures a bit and you can get them cheaper, bigger, and faster, pick one up then and make the 1tb your storage drive
