Ok guys im stuck tough. I'll start off with my goal here: I have one samsung 840 pro SSD in SATA 3 as my operating system drive (windows 8.1 enterprise x64). trying to RAID 0 2 samsung 850's in SATA 3 for gaming. My MOBO is the asrock x79 extreme 6. Tried enabling RAID in UEFI setup, just boots to windows after i save and exit. no prompt to setup RAID config with intel or in the UEFI setup. so after installing all the drivers for my board from asrock multiple attempts to see my additional drives in RST utility i gave up and used disk manager in windows to stripe the 2 850's. don't know what else to do....

When you say you enabled RAID in UEFI did you do this:
A. Enter UEFI SETUP UTILITY Advanced screen -> Storage Configuration.
B. Set “SATA Mode Selection” to [RAID] for Intel SATA2/SATA3 ports."

and then exit or did you also the following?:

STEP 2: Set RAID configuration. Please refer to p.8 -16 of this document for instructions on how to set RAID configuration.

You have to set the drives themselves to RAID mode.

Sorry for the late response. My issue was that i was not using both drives connected to the intel SATA 3 ports. one was ASmedia, one was Intel. Since then i have configured RAID and set my single 128gb SSD to AHCI to boot windows.

Only issue im having is that my RAID won't always show up in windows if i shut down or restart. If i go into the UEFI during start up/save and exit; the intel raid config shows up then im all good in windows with RAID drive available.

Glad you got the RAID working.

The issue with the RAID not showing in Windows is a little troublesome; you might want to check and make sure you're on the latest BIOS for the mobo. It's either a fluke with the BIOS or it's Windows. Check all critical, recommended and optional Windows updates, your solution may lie there.

If you're on the latest BIOS you might want to drop an email to ASRock Support, they may or may not know of the issue.

I think what may have happened was I installed Windows with AHCI mode enabled. I reinstalled Windows with RAID enabled in the UEFI instead of hacking at the registry. Fixed my issue.
