I recently sold my Intel X25-M 80gb drive because of the limited capacity of the drive; during the time in which I used it, however, I greatly enjoyed the ssd benefits, especially loading some of the Civ IV saves.
I have an old g.skill Titan--with one of the stuttery old jmicron controllers--that, for the past several months, has been collecting dust. As I have sold my X-25, I am probably going to be doing my OS install on one of the mechanical drives I have in my system. I was thinking, however, of installing my games and some apps on the ssd. Would I notice any benefit from this setup or would the fact that the OS is installed on a mechanical drive limit any read/write benefits? My hope is that by installing the OS on a mechanical drive I can avoid the stuttering problems of the g.skill but by installing games and apps on the ssd I can realize some of the speed advantages.
