SSD Fragmentation Concerns

Hi.I am specing out a new system and want to go with either Intel x-25m g2 160gb or OCZ Vertex 120 gb but my local technicians warn me of can't defrag ssd concerns. I have read alot and believe that is no longer an issue with trim support-am I right?

They're idiots. It's not even possible to fragment an SSD, at least by the traditional definition of "fragmentation." It's a completely different issue that the SSD has, and yes, TRIM support fixes it. Buy a TRIM drive and Windows 7 and you'll be happy.

They may have been trying to warn you to NOT run defrag on the drives, or may not know that newer drives don't slow down much after long use. I've put my Intels thru hell, and although I can measure some slowdown in AS SSD, it's just not a factor in real life use. But the instant response to everything I do is still there...

Which SSD do you own ?
just curiouos? I just got a intel G2 80gig so i didn't know if that was what your using ?

It does nothing for performance. Also, wouldn't it conflict with the wear-leveling algorithm of the SSD?

Yea basically all dragging does is wear out the drive faster (if you want to get really technical it can improve performance, but almost always less than 1%)
