3tb hdd's are just about the least reliable drives known to man. At least, that's what I hear. A 40gb intel x25m g2 would be ideal for the OP's needs.
The 3TBs are fine. The green series in general has gotten some legitiment criticism early on but those issues have been worked out through firmware long before the 3TB came out. I've got two 3TBs and they have worked as expected. That being said, I use them as designed...with 4k sectors and GPT. If people are realigning the drives to use 512K and MBR, then I wouldn't be surprised problems com up.
That said, the OP shouldn't use the 3TB drives because unless he dumps Win2k for something newer they won't even work, and even then we don't know his chipset limitations.
