SSD for linux boot+mysql?

Hi all,

I am nearing completion of my server and I figured I could use some input on what SSD to purchase for the box. Below are my uses cases and size required.

Use Cases:
Ubuntu OS/Boot (though the box is 24/7)
MySQL db (Max 5 connections, low IOPS)
DB size = 500megs/year
Reliability>Speed

I would like to use the SSD for the next 5 years or so...

OS = 25gigs~
DB = 500megs x 5 years
20% overhead
______________________
= 33gigs

So I'm probably going to put a 60gig+ drive in the box as I am hoping this can last even longer.

What do you guys recommend?

Intel generally has a good track record when it comes to SSDs. This isn't to say that other manufacturers are bad, they can be equally good but not many can have the advantage of cherry picking the best NANDs for their SSDs. My pick would be Intel, Samsung or Crucial, in no particular order.

Most any SSD would fit your bill tbh.
Reliability>Speed
This leads me to potentially recommend the m500, but you wouldn't go wrong with samsung or intel as suggested ...

Both speed and reliability go up with drive size, i'd recommend atleast 128GB.

I'd avoid the sandforce/ocz based drives, as many of them require windows programs to upgrade the firmware. WIth an M4/M500, plextor, or samsung drive you can burn a bootable iso and upgrade the firmware.

Thanks for the input. I also avoid anything but Intel, Crucial and Samsung for SSDs. So I'll probably go with the cheapest option from one of those companies.
