SSD as cache drive question

Does anyone know whether you can use an SSD as a cache drive for a pair of HDD's run in Raid 1 that aren't the boot drive?

To state it a bit different for clarity: If I had a pair of drives in a raid 1 array (redundancy) that I use for storage. Not the drives I have my OS on. Can I add an SSD as a cache drive?

Assuming you're referring to Intel's RST SSD caching / Intel SRT, you can accelerate -one volume on one array OR one simple disk-. As long as you only have one volume on your RAID 1 array, it should work just fine.

I've heard that when installing a cache drive it assigns itself to the drive(s) your OS in on. You are at least showing it works with a raid array. That clears up one part of the question.

I was thinking of doing this on an Asus board using Asus SSD caching. I'm not locked in on using a particular brand, though. Or, even chipset. Although I would prefer an X79-Socket 2011 board.

The control panel seemed to default to the array, but you do pick which volume/disk to accelerate when you activate the whole thing.

I believe Asus's SSD caching solution only works with one singular drive on the Marvell controller.
