hey i have been looking into getting a 32GB solid state hard drive for the purpose of putting vista on it so my comp will run faster. i hear that vista might not be built for such a thing but the possibility of a boost in performance would be great. what do you guys thing of that.

The current MLC-based drives are crap(except for Intel's), but otherwise there shouldn't be any specific issue with Vista and SSD.

wow, thats a lot of information thank you for that article. so intel would be the brand to go for but i was a little confused about the vista ordeal. all i want to do is put vista on it to speed up the boot up time and just wondering around windows. i have a 7200 rpm hdd for games, documents, and media.

Are you totally against getting a Velociraptor? They perform pretty amazingly and the 150 gig ones are very reasonably priced.

Velociraptors are probably the safest bet for now. Yes the Intel is much faster but 1) they're not in retail channels yet and 2) they're 8x as much per GB.

Velociraptors for now, SSD in 6 months to a year. I just made this decision myself, I have a pair of brand new Velociraptors in RAID 0 but I'll definitely be going SSD in the near future.
