1. CA is about restrict gun rights. I can always buy a newer, better car.

2. Cars depreciate like a rock; guns do not.

3. It's not like I suddenly stopped making money. I can always make more.

4. I've spent over $300K on cars since 2008 and I'm out of space anyways.

I have no regrets.

I think I've spent maybe $10k on guns since 1991. I just can't see owning all those guns just for the sake of owning them. I already own more guns than I shoot and I own guns I haven't shot in years... maybe even a decade or longer in fact. I also can't see it being an investment. Too much hassle selling them all unless you find someone who is a collector and just wants everything you have. Then there's the paperwork...

But hey, it's your money I guess.

I don't think anyone buying cars like that live with them every day. If you're dropping that kind of money on a car, you probably have a second (or third, or fourth, etc) as well.

We had 6 cars for a house of two, then we had kids. :hmm:

Most people who buy cars like that keep them as sunday drivers or toys.

I don't believe in the Sunday driver concept (maybe I'm not well off enough), but I have learned that you need a "plain" car when you have something on the higher end of performance and the lower end of comfort. My fun car gets as much use as my boring car. Well, right now I'm between fun cars, so that's not the case at the moment, but for me it is more that the second car is a backup. It isn't a mechanical failure backup, but when it's too cold for summer tires, rainy, etc. I also prefer the no stress car for when I have to park downtown, get groceries, leave the car with the airport valets, etc.

This. The fun car goes everywhere I go except when weather doesn't comply or (rarely) my destination is new and I'm not sure of ground clearance issues. It gets driven to work daily, parked in public parking lots, and stuffed with groceries.

It couldn't be my only car but at the right time of year it may as well be. No point in having something you are scared to drive.

The guys who spend millions on classic Ferraris and track them in the rain are doing it right.

It makes me wonder - Is demand legitimately this low or are dealers still trying to gouge on them? I see them pop up in viper forums and they all seem either super heavily optioned or heavily 'market valued,' up into the $145k range.

That is MUCH too expensive for a Viper considering its $50k price in 1992. The base barely slipping in under $100k is still too expensive.

Did you miss out that it comes with a garage door opener?

My fun car was driven a lot before kids. Only thing that kept it in the garage was snow usually. Then as Kids took over it diminished to the Sunday driver, then the never taken until I sold it. :(
