Man those SRT-4's are tight. That isn't much in mods either. Still haven't seen one:(

He must have got a really good launch. His trap speed is pretty low for running 12's.

I bet his 60 foot time was pretty good.

edit: 1.8 60 foot... pretty damn good.

that's pretty close to stock pressure.

it's something like 12-14 PSI stock... i'd google it but i got too much other stuff going on right now.. heh

the main upgrades are like turbo pipe upgrades (for that ET)
keep in mind, some people were able to break into the 13's with the car bone stock. so it's not like the car is worked over hardcore.. it's only 1 second faster... 1 second is alot when you are in the 13's range, but still.

The Neon SRT-4's factory "claimed" horsepower rating is underrated big time...

People that have dyno'd them have found that the car is putting out way more horsepower than the factory claims (probably for insurance reasons).

yep, people buying these cars are getting a deal for just that reason
the insurance isn't as high as it could be, and the car itself is cheap.. hell, the stage 1 turbo pipe upgrade for $299 USD gets you a 13.4 ET.

Yeah, usually a car loses about 15-20% from the engine to the wheels. For instance, a new Sentra is rated at 175 HP at the crank, and about 141 makes it to the wheels.

With this Neon, it's rated at 205 hp, but magazines have tested it and found that it had 223 hp at the wheels. This would indicate that the car actually has around 262 hp, not 205 hp.

He lists the mods right at the beginning and none of them are very expensive. The cars run a max of 15psi stock but the computer limits the boost in the lower rpms to keep the torque below 245ft-lbs so installing a boost controller takes that limit away and makes a big difference even though he is only running 1psi more than stock. 15psi isn't that much either. The older dodge intercooled turbos ran 12psi and my non-intercooled caravan ran 9psi. Dodge has a lot of experience with turbos and knows what they are doing.

The Neons aren't really putting out 245 lbs of torque anyway, they're putting out much more than that.

One has been dyno'd, and it was putting out 250 lbs of torque at the wheels... with the nominal 15% drivetrain loss, that's about 294 lbs of torque at the engine, instead of the 245 lbs that the factory claims.

Yeah, thats actually pretty common (LS1/LM7/LQ4)'s from GM are all that way too.

Some people said their 7.3 power strokes were higher then factory rated also.... I'm sure it's all because of DOT, but it's also better to be underrated then go through what ford had to do with the 1999 Cobra's... or 2000... I forgot, pretty sure it was 99's ;)

Well the main thing I was trying to get across is that the computer does limit boost in the lower rpms to keep the torque down. Thats also why when you look at a dyno sheet it has a very flat torque curve.
