Where the hell is your neighbor (Earl?) when you REALLY need him? He wouldn't even need a gun...just his stance of dominance should have killed and skinned the bear in one fell swoop.
 
Meh, just say hello to the bear as you walk past on your way to your car. Black bears rarely hurt people.

I also suspect that the UK government would be even more tetchy about bear immigrants trying to board lorries to get through the channel tunnel.

That's a rather large black bear. I've seen a few that were larger, but not many.

Huh. Its position in the pic makes it look about two feet tall (when on all fours). My impression was that fully grown adult bears are of the size that (when standing) would look down on me (me about 5' 10") with a "I'll fuck you up" look on their face, and even on all fours that the highest part of their body would be as tall as or taller than I am.

black bear, so they don't get super big, but big enough. had one cross through my yard the other week - posted pics here too, haha

If you open the door suddenly it will probably scare the bear away. I see em sometimes when going for a walk, just keep walking towards them, they go away. It is a bit unnerving, but you don't want to show signs of fear, they can practically smell that.
 
i take it those things are aggressive?

wouldn't throwing him a can of dog food work?
(i honestly do not know the answer to either question, so feel free to educate me; we don't have bear here. anymore. we ate them.)

Bears generally are big babies that are terrified of people. They can be pretty aggressive if they are sick/hurt, protecting their young, or protecting their territory. If they eat at a place often enough, they consider that place to be their territory... so I def don't want this bear to find my birdfood ever again.

Throwing food at a bear is a terrible thing to do because often it leads bears to make an association between people and food. You can imagine why that might be bad...

Yeah never feed bears. I have to laugh because you'd think it would be engraved in people's minds but a few years back there was this family of bears that hung out near the highway and people would stop, get out of their car and then go feed the cubs! As cute as it might be, it's for their own safety as well as yours that you don't feed them. If too many bears are coming to town and getting used to humans they end up being killed. They used to relocate them but now there's so many of them they only take action if it's a danger and at that point they kill them. If they relocate it might just come back.
 
bears are 10000 times stronger than us. i am positive i would die a horrible death to a bear.

i know how to fight against wild animals, particularly dogs, but still, no dog is anything like a bear.
