Never thought of this what do you do call into work and let them know you'll be in once the Bear leaves?

not sure; my employer would probably want me to take an hour of vacation or something like that. I was only about 5-10 mins late today though for the bear delay.

She already wants to pet it. All I have to do is tell her that it will be alright. I *promise*.

Really need to be careful with bears. Make sure you leave no food or scraps of food in your trash. Once a bear figures out where there is food they will return there over and over again.

I grew up in a very rural area of upstate NY and one of our neighbors was feeding a bear through his kitchen window (he was leaving food out for it). He left for a couple weeks and came back to a trashed house. He thought some kids broke in and trashed his place but the State Troopers determined that it was a bear.

One other note, don't kid yourself into thinking your front door would prevent that bear from entering your house. It won't.

Usually bears are afraid of people, if this one isn't he may have to be put down. If it is a female bear be very wary of cubs around, she would be much more likely to attack if she feels her cubs are in danger.

If you see it around again I would call your local wildlife management agency.

A real manly man without a manlet would have just hopped on its back and rode it to work. Your work doesn't have bear parking?

bird feeders are a problem with bears around. I suggest giving up on the bird feeding for a while.
Out at the beach property, the fish and game officer said to take ours down after we told them about the bear scat there.

Actually we haven't fed the birds for most of the summer... the wife just put up the feeder 3 days ago. The bear must have just found it this morning.

That bear looks ickle-sized, is it a young/baby one? If so, I'd be more worried, as it's a reasonable assumption that its tetchy/defensive mother is around.

Please excuse my bear-related ignorance; if bears ever were indigenous to the UK, I suspect that they had all be converted to rugs at least a hundred years ago. I also suspect that the UK government would be even more tetchy about bear immigrants trying to board lorries to get through the channel tunnel.
