Sri Lanka rejects Israeli rescuers

Neither side has officially explained the change of plan, although some reports say the objection came from Sri Lanka's military.

Sri Lanka Ambassador Diffa Digeratna is quoted by Jerusalem Post as saying that the change was due to the "the lack of accommodations in Colombo".

My reading was that they weren't happy with the presence of soldiers, but the other resquers are still going.
 
irwincur, you're as dense as a clotted cream. Muslims are a minority in Sri Lanka, and while influential, they're not determining its policy. Just read the link, it makes clear that the military did not want Israeli sodiers to come (which might be prudent in their minds). I can imagine that if Iran or Syria wanted to send a platoon or two of soldiers to Israel in the event of a disaster, Israel would have responded the same way.

How the heck did you came to that conclusion? Maybe instead of bashing America all the time, be thankful we contribute the most to world aid efforts.

I also don't think America would reject any nation because of their religion if we needed their help if a disaster like this happend in the U.S. If the U.S did that then it wouldn't be the best country in the world. Every nation, Every religion, everyone wants to come to the United States.

I meant alot of the people I live around. Here as in Amarillo, TX. I apologize for the misunderstanding. Amarillo is full of redneck and skinhead bastards. The only mosque here is constantly watched by the police due to numerous burgleries, assaults, and vandalism. These are the people who believe in God and Country and death to everything else. Those that don't care unless it's American Christians dying.
Again yes I didn't mean America, or AT P&N.

This is southern Texas or northern Texas? I know a lot of Muslims who are going to Texas recently because of job offers.

That's crazy. I live in Virginia and we have our share of rednecks. I've never seen a mosque vandalized though. I looked at the one near my house right after 9/11, but never saw anything. They are even allowed to park at a Christian Church and cross the street because the mosque parking lot doesn't have enough room for them to park. At nights there is always cops there too doing their paperwork.

The Muslims don't controle Sri Lanka, most of the people in power if not all of them are Buddhist. The reason they objected was they disliked the percentage of military people being sent.

The BBC story actually says that it was the SL Military who had issue, and they didn't like the fact that 60 Israeli soldiers would be coming along.
Seems pretty plausible to me, most countries don't really like having foreign soldiers on their soil eh? 😉
