<< On a similar note, something just as inhumane as a rifle but requiring much less effort: A cat. >>

I have one and he is great with birds, chipmonks, mice, voles, rabbits, baby squirrels, but NOT the mutha effers living in my eaves. I wake up in the morning to the sound of the chewing on stuff in there. ARGGHGHGHGGGGG!!!!! I have a screen door on the third floor that directly overlooks their hole. I was squirting liquid fence in the hole when one of them came out and freaked. I sprayed all over him and he fell to the ground. He was stunned by the fall and did not move for a while. My cat was just looking at him. Apparently, a liquid fence coated squirrel is not too appealing to a cat. FYI - liquid fence is a deer/rodent repellant. It smells like a cross between rotting fish and eggs. You spray it on plants and things you don't want the bastards to eat and they stay away.

Follow TexMaster's idea. Go buy/borrow a Semi-auto Marlin .22 rifle and top it with a 4X scope. Get a lawn chair and sit back and enjoy. Use hollow points, they kill the fastest. Unless you plan on eating the squirrels, in which case use solid point ammo.

Move to California. All we have are rats, mice and opposums. I poison all of them. They only stink until they mortify.

Do not poison them unless you like the smell of putrifying flesh. Murphy's Law requires they crawl way down into the walls before dying. You must seal up the areas they get in with metal. Then kill them outdoors however you please. For this I would recommend .22 caliber and a brand of ammo called QuikShok. It is frangible ammo. Very safe for the urban areas.

Nope - no poison. I couldn't deal with the lingering stench. When I get my pellet gun on Friday (see above link), they are going to face my wrath.

525 fps @.177 cal should do the trick.
But sometimes you gotta hit em twice.
Try and get a good shot off when they are on the ground,
Put out some peanuts or bird food on the ground , and nail em while they are pigging out.
Ya gotta shoot em ALL.
If they have had babies in that location, the little Bast###ds, will come back.
they think it's there home and will return, I know I had the same problem.
They will chew wires in your walls and celings in the attic area if they can get to them.
They have caused house fires, by stripping wires bare, causing them to short out.
If something like this Should happen, DON'T TELL the insurance company it was Squirrels.
They DON'T cover RODENT Damage.

Tell them you think it was a Racoon, that most policys cover.

I just got a call from the gun shop. My air rifle arrived today!

It's officially squirrel season!

Medication?

Ok, seriously...
Those little furry guys can cause alot of damage. Try live traps. You may have to get a professional to take care of this.

Also to a web search. This sounds like the kind of problem that would generate 10 websites.

Medication? - what do you mean by that?

Live traps? When you trap a mouse or a rat, do you relase it afterwards or dispose of the corpse?

You are suggesting that I haven't explored my options? I have and this is the best way for all parties.

I just have this picture of a guy in PJ's waltzing outside with a bb gun talking to squirrels at 6 in the morning saying, "do ya feel lucky punk?"

Ever see a squirrel with powder burns on the back of his head?

(yeah, yeah it's an airgun so no powder burns, but I was THAT close!)

btw - LeRocks - Is everyone of your posts "woot!" ?
