Squeaking noise when scrolling in IE or Windows Explorer

I just recently started to notice that when I'm scrolling in Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer (either with the mouse or keyboard), I hear a squeak for each up or down scroll that I do. I haven't installed any new hardware or software recently...

Any idea what causes this messed up behavior? I checked Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices, and there is no sound set for scrolling. Very weird problem.

so it's a squeek actuallly fromthe speakers not from the mouse itself?

Yup, it's an actual squeak noise from the speakers.. I can be scrolling with the scroll wheel, with the keyboard, or clicking on the up or down arrows on the scroll bar.

It's interference from the USB port/cable affecting the speaker cable. I have the same problem, since the audio on my NF7 is right next to the USB ports. Looking at your specs, you are probally having the same problem.

I've been contemplating putting in a USB2 controller card I have to see if it helps (actually, I just came to post a thread about it...).

I haven't heard of this problem since the K6-2 was out. Try to move whatever USB devices you have to another port. It might help. Also you can crank up your sound volume on your PC but turn it down on your speakers. This sometimes helps eliminate perceived noise levels. If not, then this is a great excuse to get a nice new shiny X-Fi sound card.

The "easy" fix is to use a port hooked up to the mobo usb header, thus moving the source of interference to a different location. You'll need a usb bracket, but I'm sure you have one laying around somewhere. You could also try to put some ferrite coils on the speaker cable, or get shielded cables.

Unfortunately, integrated audio always has noise, since all the circuits carrying sound are all next to other circuits. The only sure fix for better sound is to get a stand-alone sound card. Any stand-alone card will work better, provided it's at least mildly hw-accelerated. I'm sticking to my integrated audio, since the NVidia driver is far better than those for my CM8738 and drivers are non-existant for my A3d card.
