Square Enix trying to buy Eidos

Link - Per this article from Gamesindustry.biz, Square Enix has put in a bid to buy the house that Lara Croft built, Eidos. Interestingly, despite the fact that Square Enix has been having some financial troubles themselves, they are bidding a premium well over the actual value of Eidos currently.

The Eidos board is recommending that stock holders accept the purchase as it needs 75% approval for the sale to go through.

Eidos already accepted the take over.

The board has approved but the shareholders still have to vote on it. I can't see them turning it down given the premium Square Enix is willing to pay out.

Interesting, Eidos used to publish PC games for Square, so perhaps they're looking at them as a distribution node.

Square is trying to become more Western since that is where all the growth is in the games industry...particularly in Europe.

You're absolutely right. It makes perfect business sense for them to ignore a system with a worldwide install base of almost 30 million right now.... 😕
