I think they are underestimating how much of their audience started with their earlier games, and wants new material as they age rather than rehashed stuff they re-release for the current generation.

Personally I'd rather have quality sequels than remakes of old games. I'd LOVE to see a sequel of FF6 and another Chrono game. I also REALLY want to see Capcom do something cool with MegaMan on the Wii (side-scroller with Wiimote aiming?)... same with Konami and Castlevania.

Edit: Now that I think about it, if I had my choice of remakes, I'd like to see Xenogears in HD glory with a COMPLETE 2nd half, not just the lame narration and short battle sequences. God, what a great game.

Bring back King's Knight!!!

No, in all seriousness, I really can't spare the time to play FF remakes that I know I would just *have* to...

i'd rather play games like FF2 and 3 than the current batch like 10. you watch a 10 minute movie, play for 5 minutes, watch 20 minute movie, play for 3 minutes, watch a 5 minute movie, play for 10, watch a 10 minute movie....etc etc etc...

That's probably why they shut down Chrono Trigger Resurrection... the project to release a full 3D version of CT for free... I wish they would've released the demo before Square sent 'em the C&D :(.

EDIT:

Heh, I understand this quite well... my sister started playing my copy of Xenosaga and she was like, "when do I actually get to play?"

I want FF2/FF3 (whatever they are called now... they were named that when I played them in the US), Chrono Trigger, and last but certainly not least.... Secret of Mana.

Both have been re-released for the GBA if you want them for that (note, they were released as Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI respectively). They don't add much to the game and the graphics are still relatively the same, but FFIV saw an improvement as they took out some of the aspects that some considered "ezmode."

Well, FFVI already has a remake for the GBA.. that game took me almost 3 months to find, but I finally picked up a copy from Circuit City.

It'd be great if they remade some of the Playstation games for the GBA or DS. I don't care if they have to downgrade the graphics to the level of Final Fantasy III on DS or even to the level of Final Fantasy VI. I really like the graphical style of the old Final Fantasy games.

*ducks*

Most Final Fantasy games are not sequels to any other Final Fantasy game. They are numbered in sequence, but they all take place in different worlds with different characters. The only "true" Final Fantasy game (that is to say, console/Japanese RPG) that was a sequel to a previous Final Fantasy game was Final Fantasy X-2, which was a sequel to Final Fantasy X.

They've made some other games and movies in the Final Fantasy VII "universe," but they're in other genres. They're planning on doing the same thing with Final Fantasy XIII - several games in different genres with only Final Fantasy XIII (no subtitle) being a JRPG.
