Funny, I have IE and have NEVER had any spyware on my system. Set your security correctly and always click "NO" and you'll never have any either.

Or stay away from the pr0n sites...
I'll reiterate the chalenge I gave a couple months ago here:

Send me to a site that loads spyware without notice. Not viruses, just spyware.

If your security settings are right, it's impossible.
would you reccomend medium, high, or low on the privacy tab in IE? i have mine at medium, used to have it at low with no probs.

I like that option. Less to download.

you have never ran adaware 6 have you?

I run adaware and Spybot every couple of weeks because my dad seems to think that everyone is out to get him and will badger me about checking for spyware. I run them both right before his eyes and the only thing that ever comes up are a handful of cookies.

I have and the only thing it finds is some doubleclick cookies. IE 6 and common sense is all I use.

I call BS as I've used "common sense" and Ad-aware 6 picks up a couple of data miners every week

Are they cookies?

I just ran Adaware and Spybot and all it found are cookies.

My challenge stands. Send me to a site that loads spyware (not viruses) against my will.

I agree, You have to click yes at a site (or have an exploit not patched) to get spyware. If you are up-to-date on your windows updates and can click NO then you probably won't get spyware via your browser. More likely to get it from 'free' programs or from Porn sites or Warez (all of which generally require you to actively install something).

Anyway, bump, because this thread led me to the other one which was very informative, even though I am already familiar with most of the steps there were a few tools there I hadn't seen/needed yet that I'll keep ready in my toolbox.

Yeah, I agree
but if you do, using the mentioned methods, does work good.

For what? Proving that you don't need to worry about spyware if you aren't an idiot?

my vote for Firefox!
Have no problem with popups when using Firefox.
Mozilla mail works much better than Outlook Express, i'm not worry about my address book being hijacked anymore.

i tried to use firefox for a while but...i dont know. it was slower and there seemed to be no advantage to it.
i use IE now (i dont use outlook for my email) but can someone talk up firefox for me and convince me to try it again.

I still find this funny. I use IE for surfing and Outlook for mail and, I'll say it again, I have never had spyware loaded against my will nor have I ever had a virus.
