spyware software question

I drive around fixing peoples computer for side work. 90% call because of Spyware or Viruses. I use Spybot & Ad-Aware for spyware. I really like both, but 7/10 when I run Spybot , and wait 15 minutes or longer for it to finish (a lot of these are older computer so slower) I get told there's shit in memory and it wants to reboot and run it AGAIN before XP is fully loaded so it can clear them out. Great, but I wish it had an option that let you reboot and scan without it detecting the shit in memory first. It tacks 20 minutes to the job, and while I charge them by my time spend there it almost never pushes it over an hour so I charge them the same weather it's 30 minutes or 58 minutes. I could change my pricing, or I could find a new spyware software to use. suggestions?

I'm tempted to make a nice donation and ask if they'd add this feature, that way I can run it once every time and not worry about it. Think they would?

you can skip the initial scan when installing, do the updates then run the scan, and if there are TSR's in memory it needs to reboot so it can catch them and clean them out of the ram if they are hiding because it'll see where they are coming from and not only clean out the executable but also the trojan horse they are hiding in.

damn that makes perfect sense lol guess I'm just impacient and didn't think about it logically like you said it hummm, I don't like your answer as it keeps my time up, but you are 100% correct 🙂

Two programs come to mind if you don't already use them. Startup control panel at http://www.mlin.net/ and Superantispyware at http://www.superantispyware.com/ .

Startup is a program like msconfig that allows you to prevent startups from the registry. It goes much smoother when you stop the obvious things from loading. I have had great luck with Super in safe mode correcting some seriously screwed up systems (relatives). I hope this helps.
