Spyware Problem

I have some questions. I need to know if anybody has any websites on virus and spyware to help me learn about it. I am trying to romove some spyware but when I run adware it says that it can not remove all of the spyware. Could somebody gave me some ideas. I also heard that when you get spyware it damages your internet connection. And you have to restore something to fix it.

Another problem, When I cut my computer on sometimes my interconnection works and sometimes it doesn't, if it doesn't work then I have to disconnect the power cord from my router, wait 15 seconds then plug it back up. Then I click on my browser and most of the time this works. Sometimes, I have to do it a lot.

I'd reccomend you get Spybot first. I think it's better than Ad-aware. Update it first thing.
Also, look at your start up programs
Start->Run->type msinfo32 and hit enter
Expand Software Enviroment and click on Startup Programs, and post about anything that looks unusual.

Once you make sure you've gotten spyware start-ups out of your registry, restart in safe-mode and run spybot.

For education, just Google 'security forums' and spend some time reading.

One thing you'll find is that it's difficult to have too many scanners. For example, using Spybot, AdAware, and SpywareDoctor - each app may miss something that the other will detect and remove.

Another thing you'll find is that most security-conscious folks have apps and utilities specialized for anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-trojan. Ther is no 'one does it all' application.

Spend some time reading about increasing security and privacy for your browser - particularly for the IE browser.

Here's what you should have:
- A decent firewall (something better than than the XP firewall).
- A decent AV program (I use MicroTrend IS2005, combining firewall+AV).
- A battery of scanners such as Spybot, AdAware, CWShredder, Stinger, etc.
- SpywareBlaster is excellent - not a scanner, but an 'immunizer' or 'innoculator'.
- An anti-trojan that provides both real-time scanner and full system scan (I use TrojanHunter).
- Harden your browser by modifying both security and privacy setting (especially IE).

Opinions differ, but I consider an image/restore program a critical component for real security - just in case.

A suggestion: Do not buy or download any security app or utility that is not frequently recommended by others on the security forums. There are fraudulent offerings and some that are near-useless.
