Spyware Issues

I'm running windows xp sp1, and I have the following items on my computer that I just can't seem to remove

msbb.exe
webrebates1.exe
ualvwg.exe

I tried googling the first two, and there were a lot of different forums on the issue (most referred to something called hijack this???) but a lot of people said after removing these things they had issues booting up windows xp and some had to reinstall altogether. Does anyone know how to solve something like this? And what can I do to keep spyware out as effectively as possible.
