What does it do? and how does it work?
Is it a software or hardware?
Because i someone mentioned to me that it displays better pcture quality. I cant seem to find it anywhere.

It's used to calibrate monitor color settings. It displays known colors on your screen, then observes the result with a camera and compares them to whhat it expects.

I have Pantone's Eye-One Display 2 color calibrator. Basically you have a puck that you put on the monitor and plug into a USB port. The software you install with it runs your monitor through a series of color calibration tests, resulting in a color profile to optimize the color on your computer. Color varies from monitor to monitor; using a colorimeter such as the Spyder or Eye-One ensures that you have consistant color, instead of just what your monitor would normally show, which could be off. It didn't make a huge difference on my Dell 2005fpw LCD, but it really made the colors pop out on my wife's 20" iMac. You can pick up the Eye-One for well under $200 online:

It also varies on video card.. i had to recalibrate mine when i switch vid cards.. unless you're doing a lot of photo work.. you can't tell..

you're suppose to calibrate all your equipment, monitor, scanners, etc.. so everything looks the same from digital to paper
