I'm the admin on my DLink wireless router. How do I spy on what others on the network are doing with having VNC running in the background. (Esp. on the laptops hooked up). Thanks!

You admin a Dlink router? Did you have to get your DCNA before they let you do that? :p

The best "passive" monitoring you can do would be to capture all the packets anybody sends or receives. You can do this with a "sniffer".

Ethereal is a good free one. You can monitor every packet and conversations. Network General sniffer is better but costs money.

If you have admin privs on all the machines on your network, you could use this.

If you're having probs with some users on your network,( e.g., looking at pr0n,etc. ) the better thing is to just lock down their privs and deny them INET access at your gateway. If your collecting "evidence" against them, then I guess use the spyware.

Get a HUB (not a switch), plug it between modem and router, set up SNORT on an old PC (winpcap and windump will work too) and sniff away.
