Right now it is a "promo" program that is being tested, but probably nationwide soon. I didn't include my 12% discount through my work. My bill comes out to $63ish before taxes / fees.

Ahh ok but to everyone else in the nation it's still $90.

Sprint's been in trouble for years. This would actually help their profits and it's still cheaper than everyone else.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing. If VZ rolls out the plan sivart is claiming nationwide, it will help Sprint profits?

If is the big question. We have no idea what Verizon is might do, all that we can compare to is what prices we have right now.

If you're a Sprint investor, you'd have to be wondering what kind of losses Sprint will be reporting for Q4 2010 to have to implement this $10 "fee" across the board on all new smartphone activations.

Last quarter, Sprint loss $911M. link

Isn't there some lawsuit pertaining specifically to the current $10 fee applied to models like the EVO and Epic? Seems like this would be an easy way to get around that.

You could buy a little over 24 shares of Sprint stock (S) every year if they didn't charge the extra $10 smartphone fee

That really sucks for people on family plans.

With my employee discount, I'm paying $70/month after taxes for the 450/unlimited plan on the EVO. I'd been considering taking the kids off Virgin and putting them on a Sprint family plan, but Sprint's 3G selection isn't that great, no way am I going to pay another $10/month for each line now...
