ok.. so i threatened to quit a few months ago and when I did this, i told them I was going to try T-Mobile because they offered more minutes and what not for less money.

Sprint gave me:

2 Months Free
750 anytime minutes
3000 N&W (8pm)
Unlimited PCS to PCS

$39.99

I signed up for PCS vision and got 3 months free (standard).. Now my 3 months are nearly up, i'm going to call and cancel that and see what they give me.. :)

Yeah, so I called in today... I got 300 Anytime, Unlimited N&W for $30... pretty much the standard $30 plan... but I did get a $100 phone credit and the peak hours stayed at 8PM which is cool... sure beats my $35 for 250 Anytime, 1250 N&W plan before...

I'm not ecstatic... but i'm happy... :)

Hope you guys fare better... :)

Is that most recent offer really the best deal around nowadays? Have they basically cancelled their retention programs? My subscription expires soon; I'm wondering what others have gotten of late, or maybe it really is time to switch.

At Christmas time I worked a deal with Sprint. Customer retension was going to give me a $50 credit toward a phone. I ran into a real Sprint Rep working the Circuit City store. We called customer retension again and told them that I was interested in the LG5350 and they said they would up the phone credit to $100 toward that phone. So I picked it up for $150 at CC for an out of pocket cost of $50 for a real nice phone. Also got first incoming minute free, night time minutes start at 8PM, etc...

I've seen some discussion on FW about this (this site is 10000000000000000000 x better though). Looks like its still available thought a little more limited.

I'm curious if anyone has been able to get a retention plan recently going from non-vision to a vision enabled plan

I have a feeling that the days of getting great deals has almost come to a halt...either that or I'm not patient enough with what I am getting now. I called in to try to get a better plan twice. Both times, I was restricted in what I could do. They wouldn't let me have 8pm N/W if I signed on with a new plan. They would give me service credits and bonus AT minutes, but that seems to be it. I'm guessing that now that they have changed over that they've tightened on their deals and are not going to give in to insane deals anymore. Dangit!

Thanks for the update, Asuh--that's too bad to hear. :(

The ultimate leverage, of course, that Sprint customers have is to switch to another provider.

I really look forward to the day when we own our wireless phone numbers and can switch providers at will. Until then--either be happy with what one can get from Sprint, or be happy with a new phone number somewhere else.

Either way, of course, be happy! :)

Take back what I said before. For some reason, the number I was using wasn't getting me through to Retention. So, on my third try, I got the following:

$30/month
450 Anytime Minutes
3000 N/W Minutes
1st incoming minute free
Unlimited PCS-PCS minutes
$229 free money
1 year contract (dang it!)

And my dad and brother will be signing on with my service as well for the exact same plan. I've been a customer since July 2000 so they were very willing to help me out being that I brought a new customer to their business. Now it's on to buying a cheap phone from amazon.com. I think I can get a nice phone for $50 or so. Works for me!

Just upgraded my plan, told the retension rep I needed more minutes, and that I was considering switching to Metro PCS as they have unlimited minutes for $34.95 per month.

Old Plan (12/2002)
$34.95
400 Anytime Minutes
3000 Nights & Weekend
Nights and Weekend start at 8:00PM
1st incoming minute free

New Plan
$40.00
750 Anytime Minutes
3000 Nights & Weekend
Nights and Weekend start at 8:00PM
1st incoming minute free

Retension rep also threw in 60 courtesy minutes to get me though to the end of the month. Once you change plans you can't monitor the online minutes until the start of the new billing period, not bad for only $5.00 just about doubled my any time minutes. Of couse you commit to a new one year plan, but I had just upgraded in Dec. 2002 to the previous plan so it wasn't really a big deal.

Yes, I also got the $100 credit for a new phone purchase back in Dec. 2002, when I purchased the LG5350 for $150 from Circuit City. Couldn't really expect another $100 phone allowance just 3 months later.

Is there a different way to access Sprint's Retention Department now? I dialed *2 and told Clair "Cancellation of Service" and told them I wanted to quit because my phone is a POS (N400 WORST RECEPTION EVER) and I told the guy that my whole family was going to sign up with Sprint (which is true) but not after they saw how crappy my phone is reception-wise. All the guy would offer me was their standard customer share plans. LAME.

I called *2 after my contract had expired and told Claire "I want to cancel my service", got through at once to the retention department, asked her if there were any special plans Sprint would offer if I were considering moving (she inquired about what other plans I was considering--I mentioned some, but also mentioned that I didn't have the details in front of me at the moment), and (finally) just renewed for one year:

750 anytime minutes
3000 N&W (8pm)
Unlimited PCS to PCS
1st incoming minute free
$100 service credit (for a new phone, tho I do not know if that's mandatory)

$40/mo

Pretty much the same as what others got here, except I got both the 1st incoming minute free and unlimited PCS-to-PCS.

They wanted me to renew for two years, but I just politely told them I was only interested in one year right now, and she readily acquiesced.

One doesn't need to lie or mislead them to get these plans--just let them know you're looking seriously at others, and that either you or a friend got a better deal than the published plans last time you/he was considering cancelling, and so you're wondering what they can offer now.

Askani,

Did you get that 25% discount because of some company affiliation with Sprint or something?

I got a good deal, but I'd have traded it for yours in an instant! :)

In some areas, Sprint is offering 6PM nightimes--anyone getting that in combination with a retention deal?

Not to take over this thread

, but I checked with the retention department and apparently it's not possible to select that option when setting up the retention deals.

Also, so far as regular offers go, the 6pm start time is only available (in MN, anyway) when one buys a regional instead of a standard national plan--too bad.

sprint just sucks...my parents have been customers for 7+ years and now i call them to get a new phone credit and change plans, but they say they changed their rules last week and can't do anything for me since they did it already for me on one of my lines.......

allmotor,

No need to bluff. Just tell them your plan expires soon, and you're looking around, and the competition looks better all the time--all of which are true. (See my post a few notes above. I mentioned to them that T-mobile was offering a free $300 phone with comparable minutes, e.g.)

You can certainly renogotiate things before your contract expires, at least if past experience is any current guide.

Sure--or at least, there's nothing to lose by trying.

Just let them know that there are some other deals out there that might make it worth the $150 cancellation fee (e.g., T-mobile's $300 free phone, as of a week or two ago, anyway--check Amazon), so you're considering cancelling, and you want to know how to do that should you decide to, and if they have any deals to compete.

Thats basically the standard plan I just got from AT@T today. 350 anytime. Unlimited offpeak $29.99. Its exactly what I wanted since its basically just gonna be my long distance phone for the house. I still have to keep a landline for out of country calls.

You might not be able to get more minutes, but you may be able to get them to change your night time minutes from 9PM to 8PM.
