http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/19/sprints-dan-hesse-significant-4g-plans-to-be-announced-this-fa/

We're here at Sprint's monolithic campus in Overland Park, and part of our day was spent speaking directly with CEO Dan Hesse. Amongst other things, the bigwig confessed that it had been awhile since his company (or Clearwire) had launched a 4G market. While Verizon Wireless has been pushing out LTE to new cities on what feels like a fortnightly basis, there's been nary a WiMAX deployment in the US during 2011. But that, friends, is gearing up to change. According to Hesse: "We're going to come out with a great story this fall around 4G, and it'll all become clear." He seemed curiously excited about whatever's around the bend, and Sprint's VP of Product Development, Fared Adib, seemed similarly giddy about the impending unveiling. Neither of 'em would crack on what markets would be addressed or what tactics would be used to match rivals in terms of 4G reach, but whatever the case, we're guessing Sprint users will be a lot happier with their service once they get through the summertime blues.

Oh, and it's worth mentioning that Sprint's "not exclusive to WiMAX, nor the Clearwire relationship." Not a soul on the campus would talk details surrounding that rumored LightSquared investment, but judging by the smiles, it's at least on the table.

Saw this over at Engadget. Hope its good news, Verizon's ultra fast LTE rollout has put their WiMAX network to absolute shame.

Meh, I'm still paying my ETF and getting a SGS2 on V as soon as I can. In ArkLaHoma, their 3g is weak in major cities , strong on interstates in the middle of nowhere, and nonexistent anywhere else. Not just no 3g either, no voice. Half the time it won't properly roam on Verizon anyhow. I can be standing next to my uncle in BFE somewhere where he has 2+ bars of 3g and I don't even have voice for 60 miles in any direction.

4G? Hell, . . . they can't even provide 3G in many large markets. These things are only possible if you live in a major metro area.

Sweet. Better coverage is always welcome, although i've never been in a situation where I needed 4g and couldn't use it.

I've been soaking up 4G on Verizon for the past month and loving it. Fast as all hell, and near-seamless CA coverage between Orange County and Los Angeles.

I would love to except I have a family plan with 3 phones and there isn't a chance in hell I am going to pay Verizon's INSANE data prices. My bill would go from $150 to $150 for JUST the data not counting the extra $120 for the voice and text. Who is willing to pay nearly $300 for 3 lines of CAPPED data and phone usage? Thats... fucking insane.

In the very rare situation where I don't get good coverage I usually try roam control.... where most the case verizon isn't any better. I know that is my area... but raising the price for less? That's insane. Verizon let the iphone get to their head just like AT&T did.

I am hoping that LTE will be the annoucement which is my reason for delaying my upgrade.

I agree, but I can get away with their 450 talk plan with added 500 texts and 2gb data for $5 less than my 450/unl/unl sprint plan. Unlimited is useless if you have no access

Not a surprise, it's already a done deal. It's just a matter of how they are going to do the rollout and what they are going to do with wimax. I hope they have certainly thought this out better than wimax or they are going to end up with a couple half-baked networks and piss poor coverage while Verizon is rolling with a nationwide LTE network. If they screw this one up the company is doomed.
