Sprint wants me to pay $50/month extra for a Blackberry :(

Currently my family is on the Sprint everything plan which is $100/month + $10/month for extra phones past the first two. We have four phones on our plan so its $120/month right now+tax

I went in today to look at the new Palm Pre and to buy the Blackberry 8330 and at first the sales person said that it would be an extra $30/month for the blackberry and I told him that'd be no problem and then he started to ring it up on his computer and it seemed like it wasn't working so he went and asked his manager and he said you now need to get the "everything data" plan for blackberries/palm pre/instinct/etc (used to not include blackberries), but it used to not include blackberries 🙁
That's $130/month plus $20 for each phone line after the first two, so it would come out to $170/month. The blackberry would be the only phone to need to use internet or anything but the others would still have it :/

UGH I was excited and everything

None of our phones are still on contract at the moment I don't think, so we could move to another carrier potentially. How much do you pay for unlimited minutes/texts for verizon/the others?

Or any way I could lower this price with Sprint? What about the people that used to pay $30/month extra for a blackberry.. do they have to now pay this new a lot higher price? This sucks

🙁

That's why I didn't get a Blackberry when I picked up my SERO plan last year...they wouldn't let me get one without the extra BB fees.

Can you get a discount through your employer?

You can't use BB with the Sprint SERO plan without a BB add-on plan. This has been talked about quite a bit.

What is the BB add-on plan?

EDIT: I signed up for the plan when this thread was posted.

To use the BB features you have to use a $39.99 add on plan to Sprint SERO packages.

I don't know what to tell other than I'm definitely not paying anything extra beyond the plan price.

You may just have been lucky or maybe they've changed things with those new family plans. Are you actually using BB data services, or do you just use the internet and things like that? Are you connecting to a company email w/ blackberry functionality?

All the threads I've seen, people are saying they had to take the add-on to use a blackberry.

Not using the phone to connect to company e-mail. Not tethering either.

I went and looked out of curiosity. It appears you get "Blackberry Internet Services", whatever the heck that is! But that the Corporate Email or Worldwide email service is a $20 or $40 add-on. So it appears you have particial service, but I'm not even sure what BIS does over just regular internet data, lol. Interesting to know!

Sprint is kicking Palm in the foot for not allowing the Pre to be used with "discount" phone plans. Imagine all the users on the SERO plan wanting to upgrade their pos moguls or touch.

all of the cell companies are gouging as much as possible when it comes to data packages and their cell plans. Hopefully something breaks int eh consumers favor int eh near future or it could get real ugly.

i have sprint sero and it's $30 extra to have my bb.

OP it's not sprint's fault, i bet most of the extra BB plan fees go to BB as a royalty fee.

I am in that group. I was all set to get one in August when my contract is up but no way am I giving up my SERO plan. TP2 is to big so it looks like I will be hanging on to my Diamond for a while longer.

That is the point I am at as well. I want to upgrade from my mogul, but won't do it if I have to end up paying MORE per month.

Why??? They don't make money off the phones. You gatta pay to play.

My brother works for sprint and it looks like I may be able to hook onto his family plan and get 500 minutes + unlimited data for $30 on the blackberry or even on the pre.

Not going to happen on the Pre. I has to be an everything plan.

I thought sprint was supposed to have decent plans.

With t-mobile, my blackberry is only $20 extra. Of course, I don't get 3g or anything, but all I have any desire for is email and news.

Is the new Pre that good? I am almost done with my 2 years SERO $30/month contract with Sprint. I am using the Motorola Q9C and the battery is getting weak. If I can get a good deal with a new phone from Sprint SERO, I will sign another 2 years contract.
