Ummm, no. That's way out of budget.

So, to clarify... you need to pay those SOBs an extra huge amount of money to do simple things?
Well, practically... yeah... I know for my wife's LG VX6000, you had to get a $75 cable just to interact with the PC...

Maybe you can find some phone-hacking/modding boards that could explain how to get around such things with your own devices...

Doesn't the Sprint Users Forum have some kind of tool for uploading stuff to the phones?

Oy! Since when did phones get so complicated?

You cannot upload ringtones/pictures/programs to most of the phones; certainly not any of the non-smart phones.

So are all cell phone stores useless? I went to the local Sprint PCS store and they gave me no helpful information. At least I got a flyer with the Xmas phone specials.

Store job application:

Do you have a pulse? ___ Yes ___ No

Welcome to the team!

Edit: How do you get the deals which are for new activations "only" without a new activation? Threaten to switch?

But they are horrible quality. You can make your own out of wav files very easily and use one of the uploader tools to send to the phone. Same with wallpaper.

At least Sprint lets you upload your own if you have the know-how. Verizon makes you buy from them.

OT, but you can do the same on Verizon, if you know how. (So it sounds like Sprint is exactly like Verizon in that regard.)

Well, since they have the upgrade rebates its nearly impossible to get any special deal out of them. So really you can only work yourself a better plan. Phone wise, the $150 rebate is all you'll get.

Yeah, but its more of a pain to throw it a Verizon phone isn't it?

I don't know any details because I've never tried. I just talk on mine, take a few pictures, send some picture emails, and occasionally use text messaging (I've never used more than 10 text messages in a month). I couldn't care less about ring tones--I just set a built-in, normal-sounding ring and forget it.

I know that the procedures vary by phone, but one way people upload ringtones to some phones is to attach a properly formatted ringtone file to a picture message sent via their picture messaging website.

Another way is with a data cable.

I don't know any specifics though.

Yes, Sprintusers.com has somethign called Focus that allows you to upload things to your phone. What happens is you browse for the file, it uploads temperarily to their servers or whatever, and they send you a text message with the proper URL. Phone navigates to it, and downloads it to your phone. It's not really uploading to your phone... it's more like downloading using your phone. Most Sprint phones can do this.

And yes, I usually just create all my own stuff now. The last two phones i've owned have had weird screen resolutions (toshiba 4050, and now the Sanyo MM7400), so a lot of the stuff you see on places like 3gupload are too small. I also created my own AAC ringtones for my 7400. Just took an mp3, cut it down to whatever 30 seconds I wanted, and then used quicktime pro to convert it and sprintusers to upload it. Unfortunately, since i'm on the main line and it costs $15 a month for vision, I pay by KB, and most of the 30 second aac clips were about 90k (90 cents since sprint charges a penny a kb). I've transfered about 6 aac ringtones and 5 wallpapers, probably cost me at least $10.

nutbucket: depends what you mean by uploading. Like others have said, sprintusers has their focus tool which allows you to send a text message to your phone with a URL that links to the file you want, and that works on almost every Sprint phone. Certainly the ones with internet capabilities at least. And secondly, they do have data cables for a lot of the sprint phones, and using Futuresync's software, you can directly upload things from your PC to your phone. Some sprint stores even use the same futuresync software to transfer your phonebook when you switch phones.

I thought you couldn't upload apps/ringtones using the Futuresync software? I've been using tools like the focus uploader for years myself.
