Sprint PCS unlimited wireless web minutes for $10 a month

If you're on a Free and Clear plan (or sign up for one) and agree to a one year contract, they'll let you add unlimited wireless (Vision) minutes onto your phone for $10 a month. Great deal compared to package deals and per MB deals from other carriers. Hopefully it'll start a bit of a price war.

Here's the press release

and here's a news.com article on it

Corrected title... sorry, was tired when I typed it.

You know Sprint is only adding unlimited wireless web usage for the extra $10 a month and not Unlimited wireless minutes as you have in your title.

Ok if its the free and clear plan...then the thing with that is that i dont think u will be able to get wireless web that the new 3G phones have....unless sprints has a deal like that out where u can buy 3G phones and get the free and clear plan then get the 3G plan wireless min.. but i can be wrong...and may have to check with sprint to check whats with this deal exactly

btw u can use free wirless minutes with sprint anyways..they just come of ur minutes..so u can use all u want on weekends..and nights..so u really dont have to pay for wireless web if u r a casual user..and just want to check ur eamil or sports scores at nights or weekends..

i know b/c i work for sprint..but hey even i dont know all their plans cause they keep on adding the plans all the time..without future notice..

Ok, I have never owned a cell phone in my life and I once had a pager for about a month. I am a total computer and gadget geek, but I just don't have a need to communicate on a real time basis I guess. I don't even answer the phone when I'm at home! I am only in interested in this for wireless web access on a PDA or laptop. I always have people tell me what a great deal their cell phone plan is and then I hear they have a $300 cell phone bill! I guess it's real easy to get screwed with all the rules and crap if you don't keep track of minutes and time, etc. I just don't want to play that game. So is this the deal to finally get me off the fence? Any talk minutes would just be bonus, I really just want wireless web access at a decent price. Allso what speed would this be at? There are so many standards for data access and I have not kept up. Is this the 19.2kbs speed?

Wireless Web minutes are those minutes used to access web pages with your phone either directly on the phone's screen or using the phone as a modem. These minutes come from your plan minutes just as if you were talking on the phone.

The 3G phones use Vision only. Vision is a seperate service and does not affect your plan minutes.

I tried to buy the new 3G phone sanyo 4900. They told me that I couldn't keep my same plan ( 650 anytime, 3000 nights/weekends starting at 8pm for $34.99) if I upgraded phones. Said I would have to upgrade plans. Does anyone know how I can keep the same plan and still have access to all the cool features of this new phone, without paying too much more?

I know there was a guy that posted that said he worked for sprint. Can you help me out?

When I talked to a CSR last week he said it was for the N/W only....
However, you should know that Sprint is back to working deals since there is once again competitive pressure.
Got 2000 anytime & 8pm (& more!) for $80

I have the 4900 phone and I have a Non-Vision Plan. Just tell them your not interested in getting a vision plan, you could always add it later for $10.00/Month. When I got this phone my old contract was up and I was speaking to the retention department though.

I have a F&C plan through retension, I bought a Samsung N400 (Vision) phone at Costco, went home and activated it on the Web. No change, new color phone. Now I added the new $10 Vision add on and kept my complete retension deal.

What is this retension deal!

Here's how retention works:
- You are a SprintPCS customer for at least 6 months or so. The longer the better.
- Either Sprint calls you to renew your plan, or you call *2 on your phone and say "cancel service" to Claire.
- Tell rep you were thinkign of switching to another provider because they had a better deal.
- Keep haggling with them until you get the plan you want. If you suck at bargaining, they'll just cancel your service anyway. 😛

I've been a SprintPCS customer since 1999 so they gave me 1000 Anytime and 2000 N/W minutes (starting at 8pm) for $49.99.

I just called the other day and added unlimited Vision for $10 with no change to my plan.

I just LOVE when people spout out BS opinonated answers.
Have you even TRIED the 3G service? It works pretty damn well if you ask me. Maybe you should give it a spin before you start thread crapping.

I haven't tested it myself, but theoretically, it's faster than your 56k. However, from what I've really runs about the same speed. Not bad for something that fits in your hand and $10 a month, though.

I hooked up my Sanyo 4900 (3G) with USB cable to my home computer to try it out. DSLREPORTS.COM speed test gives me a 50/69 Down/upload speed, better than 56K dialup. I was downloading at 6K/Sec and my kids were playing Diablo II on-line with no problems. Obviously not as good as my DSL but I must say I'm impressed considering its a wireless phone!

When I was in Hong Kong this summer, I saw someone in a cafe surfing the net by putting his cell phone next to the laptop. I wonder if that's bluetooth technology, but I did not ask. Wouldn't it be cool to surf the web by putting the cell phone next to the laptop, w/o cable, and use the 3G to surf the web! Wish we can do that here!

dirtrat how exactly did you hook up your 4900 to your pc.. via usb? How?
And then how did you use your phone as your internet connection.. sounds cool, but i'm confused.
