Anyone with the Sprint Mogul and use it on WIFI networks?

I'm seriously thinking about switching from Verizon to the Sprint Mogul (SERO!). Does anyone know how well the WIFI works? Specifically, my work place has terrible reception and i can piggy bank off the wireless network there. I'd also do the same at home.

1. Does Wifi work well?
2. Do you like the phone? Is it worth it?

Any qualms with Mogul and Sero? I spent the better half (nonworking) reading up on the mogul, Sprint CS, howard wiki and other reviews. They seem positive but now it's a question of forking over $$$ for the phone, getting the SERO plan and paying the termination fee on my verizon contract.

Thanks!

Not sure. But in general if you have a weak connection, the phone has to use more power to keep that connection.

I'm looking at the same exact phone, except for the phone will be on Qwest wireless, which is a small MVNO of Sprint. I went and checked it out today, I really like it except I'm used to texting on an outside keypad and wanted the under the phone sliding keypad to text easier when I'm just at home and not on the move with one hand. I didn't get a chance to test the wifi, but hopefully someone has one here. I heard that it's wifi is exceptional, and even surpasses the 8525 (I don't know if the 8525 has wifi, but I read it in a few reviews).

Yeah I was fairly sure it did.. I work at the AT&T warranty center and every now and again an 8525 slips through to me. There's a completely different department within the warranty center for the High end devices (smartphones). We call it the High end device department, or the data device department within the warranty service center.

Unfortunately I haven't been trained for those high end devices, I would like to be so I have more of a background but it's also more of a pain in the ass telling customers how to navigate a phone they should already know how to use.

haha. Working for Cingular but getting Qwest/Sprint. Unless you are working for a contracting company for Cinglar.

Windows Mobile is pretty straight forward if the user did not install modifications. And if they did they probably wouldn't be contacting you.

Anyhow Windows Mobile kicks ass if you can benefit from it.

Indeed Indeed.. I am in a contracting company. I personally am very satisfied with Qwest's service, which runs through Sprint, which means I am also satisfied with Sprint.

I am really interested in this phone even though I'm an average person and regular college student. I would love wifi just for the convenience of having it available to me wherever I go. Qwest came out with this really badass phone called the HTC S720 or Fusion. It's got a front keypad, and also has a slideout keyboard underneath it with windows mobile 6 as well, AND the same processor as the 6800/mogul. Unfortunately for some reason the provider decided to really cripple it by taking the wifi access away :( which means my next phone is going to be the 100 dollars more expensive mogul.

I checked that phone out and it looks kinda mehh. The more popular stuff goes on with Cingular/T-Mobile (GSM). I highly doubt there will be much 3rd party/hacker support over at www.xda-developers.com forum.

If you are looking for wifi phone just for the convience. I would suggest going with T-Mobile :p Many people have been getting pretty much full internet(with the exception of some blocked ports) with the $5.99 T-Zones plan.

I've been use this for quite a while and has been around since 2005? Anyhow T-Mobile has great rates $39.99 for 1000 Minutes is the usual promotion. Sometimes you might catch one with free Nights and Weekends.

Unless T-Mobile is total crap down there, I would suggest you to give it a try:p If theres no native coverage(seeing that you are using Qwest) then by agreements you will roam on Cingular or the local regional carrier.

Also you can get a T-Mobile Wing for $50AR with the Microsoft Windows Mobile Partner/T-Mobile discount.Text If any chance you don't like it you can sell it on ebay for $300~? and buy yourself an 8525 or MDA for cheaper.

T-Mobile = win win situationz

I can get really good service with T-mobile out here where I live in south Phoenix, yet I'm under my parents plan for Qwest so it is more convenient for me to stay with Qwest, and now that they finally have decent phones, I will be more satisfied.

The Fusion is an awesome phone, I pretty much like it in every aspect, and that's saying a lot for me because I rarely find myself liking bar-styled phones. Overall I would have to say that the only reason I would ever switch to AT&T or T-Mobile would be if they offered a phone I was really truly interested in (They do have phones I'm interested in, yet still not enough interest to push me to sign with that carrier), and if I was on my own for service, but since the parents are paying my way on this plan, I'm not complaining. Qwest's service slaughters T-mobiles out here in the west. I get better service than my girlfriend in all areas, even at her house. Where she gets 1 bar, I get 3.. etc. etc..

Overall, if the Fusion had wifi, I would've already pulled the trigger. Since it doesn't, but the Mogul does, I believe in about a month or so I will find myself with the Mogul sitting in my hand. It will definitely be a change and most likely something that's hard for me to get used to using a phone like this, yet it's a change for the better.

Edit: Just a second thought here, T-mobile would probably be my carrier of choice if I did not have Qwest already paid for. They always seemed to have good competitive pricing and I always wanted to go with them right off the bat but still, the parents had to stick me with Qwest, where I suffered all the way till I got my decent Samsung A920.

The only reason why I would probably move to AT&T is the Iphone.. I know despite all the Apple branding and all that, I would most likely be satisfied with an Iphone, but to get the full function of the phone (which I would definitely want to do) I would end up paying like 80-100 bucks a month JUST for myself, pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Another reason for pro-Qwest is that most of the landlines in the west are operated by Qwest (I believe, at least from what I've seen. I used to live in Idaho and moved down to Phoenix. I saw nothing but Qwest trucks working on phone lines). This plays along with the fact that I can communicate with my parents any time of the day without using minutes, which is nice. I also am able to use the plan for an extra (10 bucks?) to use the phone unlimited after 7 PM. I could not tell you how many double digit thousands of minutes I've used in the evenings. I rack up at least 60 every night.

Yeah. CDMA was more superior technology to begin with. Better signal penetration and less towers. Sounds like you got a pretty good setup going on. Only the phones suck pretty bad. Keep in mind when you're on GSM you are not limited to carrier specific phones.

Anyhow, I'd definetly wait a while longer to see if they will drop the price for the Mogul. The AT&T Tilt (8925) was announced yesterday at $299AR w/ contract. With some speculation of T-Mobile USA releasing its variant by Q2 2008.

As for the iPhone, I've heard many ups and downs about it. Seems like Steve Jobs wants to preserve the iPhone as a masterpiece. I guess you can refer the iPhone to a Mac. You can do everything on it but you are limited to those certain programs/applications.

I wonder how is your data plan like. I'm pretty happy with T-Mobile's data and coverage is always good in the city(Boston). Yet I am in the same boat as you. I don't foot the bill either:p Its pretty 'kickass' being able to get my 'push' e-mail, Instant Messanging, updates and etc. through my data connection.

Finally, I would strongly consider getting the Mogul. As it is the equvilant of the Cingular 8525. Check out the forums over at www.xda-developers.com as it is a whole new different world:p

Oh and by the way, have you ever considered the myFaves plan? :D

I've heard CDMA is a better technology, I never really knew that just thought maybe T-Mobile didn't stick towers out by my girlfriends house. I have to agree that GSM does have the whole SIM card thing going for it, it would be really great to just get a phone and pop a SIM card in it and use it on any carrier, given that it is already unlocked.

As for the price drop, I don't know if that will really happen since it seems to be two different markets in terms of CDMA and GSM, not only that but they just BARELY released the Mogul on Qwest, they may have had it for a longer period on sprint, in fact I'm almost positive they did.

The Iphone is a nice little phone plus I would use it for music wherever I go, just convenient because I already have an Ipod and it would narrow things down by having a 2 in 1 device.

The data plans are expensive, like something 44 bucks a month just for 100 mb down on the sprint ev-do network. It's fast and I've heard it's superior to cingular/AT&T's data network for the 8525 but at the same time, the price is a killer. I could get a 35 mb down package for 20 bucks a month, that's a little more reasonable. I'm still not sure how much I would use that data plans though, it all depends on how easy I find the phone to use, and that's why I would like it for mainly just Wi-fi.. I would probably be alright with the 35 mb package just as long as I used the wi-fi a decent amount of the time whenever it is available.

And oh yeah, I did forget about the myFaves plan. That could also work for my parents/friends, although like 3 of those spots would be taken just by my mom's cell, dad's cell, and their home phone. I guess then I would have one for my girlfriend unless I get free t-mobile to t-mobile phone, and one for my other best friend.

Well they aren't going to just stick a tower if it's not profitable:p Oh yeah I forgot that Qwest is just a regional carrier, that piggybacks back and forth with Sprint? Also if you get AT&T's iPhone you wouldn't get 3G. Plus Cingular's network is a bit shoddy. I'm sure you would get superior speeds on (Qwest)Sprint's network. But that data packages are absurd. That is basically Canadian pricing. They do not have unlimited data packages and cellphones are a fortune. 35MB is not a lot, well depending on what you are doing.

It may seem a viable option to have your parents switch to T-Mobile all-together. If everyones on T-Mobile you don't want to worry about minutes:p Plus the T-Mobile Wing for $50AR is an incredible deal. I'd have all three of you sign up and get the phone. Then sell it on ebay. Profit $250 x3? Your parents can get a cheaper phone or whichever one they like, and you can get whichever PDA phone.

May sound complicated but it is truely a great deal currently. Only 1 year contract plus no activation fees. Each of you are getting $250 out of your 1 Year contract. Plus the $5.99 EDGE internet is where it is at.

Also another alternative:D is to do T-Mobile Hotspot @ Home. Which basically uses your Wi-Fi connection to place calls. No minutes will be deducted. Only $9.99 additional per a month:p

Yeah unfortunately, my mom and sister are the only other ones who use the other cells on the plan. My Dad has Verizon through his company and it's paid for by the company. Now I know it's going to be hard to convince them to switch because their home phone and all the cells are tagged together on one bill, and they've been satisfied with Qwest for the whole time we've had them. Not only that but it's hard to teach and old dog new tricks ;) .

Qwest is expensive as all hell, I'll admit that. We end up only sharing 750 minutes per month between my mom, sister, and I. The good thing about that is that we can tag on the free after 7 pm and completely free weekends on the plan and I trained them to use their phones after 7 pm is they want to get all the free minutes and talk as along as they want.

T-mobile does have some great deals.. I have no idea how the service is over in Idaho Falls though. I know where I'm at specifically in southern Phoenix I would receive good service, because my girlfriend does out here, but when she goes back home she hardly gets any service at all, whereas I can talk freely out there with no problems.

I think it does to a degree.. I'm not sure if it COMPLETELY does. It wouldn't matter that much anyway, I'm the only one I know with Qwest wireless service. However, we have free landline to mobile from our house and also every phone that's on our plan. That's all that really matters to me because we're the only ones I know with the Qwest wireless service.

Win-win situation until Sprint shafts ya:p

If you're happy with the phone and you initially set up your plan the way you want it exactly then I don't see why you wouldn't be satisfied. The only bad thing I've heard about Sprint is the customer service.. and you don't need to be talking to them every day if you do everything right the first time.

I am really satisfied with the service of the Qwest/Sprint towers, it's far superior to anything than I have had and I have heard many people also mention Sprint has the best service/coverage that they have experienced.

As for me, I'm planning on getting the mogul here in about a month.. just gotta wait for two more paychecks and then I'll have enough (rent comes first unfortunately and I only work the part time shifts). I was actually talking to the Qwest stand guy and he said that after the first quarter that the phones are out they will go down in price with the service plan, which is nice. He told me I should wait till November and I should see a price change sometime within that period.

True. But sero might take a few calls to configure properly.

Let me know how it goes when you get the Mogul:D

Will do, I really hope it does drop to like 200 with 2 yr. That way I wouldn't feel completely guilty dropping so much money on this thing.
