Sprint iPhone preorderers

Did you see any mention of extra data charges or upgrade/preorder fees when you ordered?

AFAIK all smartphones now require the $10 "premium" data plan... And fees for upgrading are pretty normal for most carriers.

I really don't mind the charges that much since Sprint still has the best plans on the market. But if they're trying slip the charges in deceptively - I figure they'll show up when you activate the phone, at which point you have to pay a restocking fee if you don't want them - I'm very tempted to call and bitch.

I wonder how well these things are selling on Sprint. We have nearly half the subscribers as ATT and Verizon. The gf wants one, so I might check and see if the local store gets any in stock tomorrow, but if the preorders went like crazy, I might not waste my time.

They tell you about the extra $10 fee ahead of time. It will basically be 79.99 for the 450 anytime plan, which is the cheapest. They don't mention the $10 bucks as a fee, but it is broken out as such on the bill.

It makes perfect sense for them to do this. People flock to the iPhone and will pay an extra $10 a month for it. It's only $10 right?

Also, I don't see how you can say sprint has the best plans on the market.
T-mobile has unlimited everything (data speed throttled after 2GB) for $50. That's better than Sprint plan by a long shot. It's like $10 a month to up the cap to 5GB on T-mobile.

edit:Caveat- The iPhone is limited to Edge on T-mo network.

The $10 was added when the original EVO came out last year. It's pretty transparent on the site when you work with any smartphone.

It was originally a 4G only thing, but now it seems it's any smart phone. Kinda shitty on their part, IMO.

I've been pricing phones on their site and the $10 premium data fee is quite obvious.

One question, does it make any sense to get the iphone 4s with sprint? If I'm not mistaken sprint doesn't support hspa+ and you'll be stuck with their poor 3g speeds?

Sprint should have offered 2-year upgrade pricing for those who were at or close to 1yr. I'm sure what I am doing is not typical but I'm just going to pay the 1yr ETF and go to Verizon for the iPhone.

It really depends. The 3g speeds in my area are the same as the Verizon ones, so my gf is getting the iphone on sprint, cause it is cheaper than verizon.

For new accounts yes.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I'm a current Sprint customer - Palm Pre so no $10 extra. Doing my preorder upgrade, I didn't see anything about having to add the extra $10 or pay an upgrade fee. There was a section about plan features, but it just said you could choose those later.

Question - I have Sprint off contract and while I don't really want an iPhone, I'm curious if I were to order one online, could I resell it without ever opening the box? Does simply ordering the phone tie it to my account somehow even if I never activate it?
