You have to remember that T-Mobile is an even bigger player in Europe and is controlled by the German giant Deutsche-Telekom AG. I have little doubt that DT has big enough pcokets to buy both AT&T and Cingular, thus absorbing their respective GSM networks.

If they wanted to do that, they would have bought AT&T, not Cingular. IIRC, they passed on the deal first. Even if they didn't pass on it, the merger would have made sense, they have compatible networks.

From what i understand, it wouldn't be until around 2006 that a phone switch is necessary.

Easy trigger. Donahue mentioned more than once that they were comitted to iDen through at least 2007.

They specifically mentioned that they were working with Motorola to make PTT work as well as possible over CDMA. And yes, Nutbucket, it already works pretty well. Now VERIZON'S PTT... that's another story.

In order of quoting:
- Sprint Nextel will basically be twice their size, as they were in a very close battle for 3rd - 5th
- DT DOES NOT have THAT big of pockets. The only way Cingular would get T-Mobile is if T-Mobile lost a bunch of subscribers and Cing/ATT bought what little was left
- DT didn't "pass on the deal," Cingular's bid was bigger and they didn't re-bid to beat them.

I'll agree with you when Sanyo released a bluetooth enabled phone. As awesome as the new MM-5600 looks it still lacks that vital feature.

? Are you sure about that? I know that they have more DIGITAL coverage than anyone else (Sprint had that by itself), but I don't know if they actually cover more, espeically given Cingular and AT&T's EXTENSIVE analog coverage.

Yeah, when they work. I can't get sprint service in my basement and I live 40 miles from the WORLD HEADQUARTER. 🙂

? Are you sure about that? I know that they have more DIGITAL coverage than anyone else (Sprint had that by itself), but I don't know if they actually cover more, espeically given Cingular and AT&T's EXTENSIVE analog coverage.

You live 40 miles from a suburb of Kansas City (which isn't that big to begin with), AND you're in your basement. Yeah...... I just don't understand what you expect radio waves to do. This makes me think that the service works upstairs in your house and outside. Great. Don't go into your basement with your phone, then.
