AFTER RECEIVING a tip, Cape May County prosecutors watched as Alexander and his 22-year-old girlfriend spoke of their 7-year-old child.
Authorities did the math and determined that the couple?s sexual relationship began when the woman was 13, according to prosecutor Marian Ragusa.

Not knowing when her birthday is, or the kids, but:

22years - 7years = 15
15years - 9months = 14.

That might not make it legal, but from the basic numbers they gave, I make it 14, unless the kid was very nearly 8 and the woman was only just 22.

And the parents didn't notice that their kid was pregnant and only 14 or so?!

Seems like no one cared at the time it happened, I know it would be odd to let it alone, but, c'mon, no one seemed bothered for 7 years.

Also...takes 9 months before the birth so go back 9 months from then. Possible she was 13 at the time of conception.

Unless im mistaken he did add in the 9 months of pregnancy. but hey i have been mistaken before!

That's retarded. He's been with her for almsot ten years and they're going to charge him with statutory rape?

They may be able to make it stick if the statute of limitations hasn't run out for that particular offense. ::shrug::

Do you actually think that a guest on Jerry Springer will know what statute of limitations means? I doubt that.

But I kind of doubt all of this. I mean, every person on Jerry Springer is fake. At least I thought it was all made up.

That's bizarre. Isn't there some kind of statute of limitations, though?

Some states toll the statute of limitations when there's evidence of childhood sexual abuse. If the 22 year old mother suffers from mental incapacity or falls under other tolling doctrines, they can bring charges depending, of course, on the length of the tolling period.

Sigh....pretty dumb if you ask me....yeah it's illegal to have sex with some underage but it was years ago....there must be some kind of limitation on this...I mean they have been happily together ever since....

But the other thing is, I cannot see how it can be "sexual assault" if she consented....it's just the wrong wording for it totally.

Yeah they guy was still a bit dumb for saying it on live TV....why oh why were important state officials watching springer....do they regularly watch it for people to make a mistake and blurt a crime out!!??

?Once a person goes on national television and acknowledges committing a crime, I can?t imagine a state ? any state ? standing idly by,? said Judge Carmen Alvarez.

No, if no complaint was filed by anyone especially the parties involved then the Prosecutor is wasting not only time but Tax Payer dollars. Obviously there is no serious crimes being committed in the Jurisdiction of this Prosecutor and this Judge. They should be moved to a Jurisdiction that is buried in case loads or fired from their current jobs because they are not needed.

This thread should also be in Politics and News.

13 or 14... still gives you 20...

What does 20 have to do with it? She's 22.

20 years in prison...LOL

Sorry for not knowing US rape laws :p

And as someone said, if it happened in Canada and she was 14 it's not rape, so in some cases it could matter :p

Sounds like a double standard to me. People admit to being prostitutes all the time on that show, and no one prosecutes them.

Yes, I am white trash with an Internet connection. I watch Jerry Springer occasionally.

Wouldn't the state still need to do a paternity test of some kind?
Just because the guy said he's the father doesn't make it true.
