So about 2 1/2 weeks ago I sprained my ankle playing basketball. It was a pretty bad sprain with huge swelling and loss of function (I couldn't put any pressure on it for 3-5 days). We took an x-ray and thankfully it wasn't fractured and was only a sprain. I want to get back to exercising as I've put it off for a few months now and I can feel the effects, but I don't want to cause any possibly damage to my ankle.

There's still a small swell on my ankle but I can walk perfectly fine now. What are your guys' thoughts? I usually run around my neighborhood for about 30-45 minutes as my main form of daily exercise.

ah that sucks man. i broke my left ankle and sprained my right one ... at the same time ... while playing ball. i had to get a metal plate in the broken one in surgery.

honestly my sprained one bugs me more than my broken one does to this day. it seems that sprains don't really go completely away ever. when the weather changed i noticed it more, and when i played in this football league it bugged me initially and was swollen for a few days afterwards. but as the season went on i didnt even wear my brace sometimes and it didnt swell up.

i would suggest that if it doesn't hurt, once the swelling goes down, to continue to work at it and possibly wear a brace to see if that helps too. but aslong as you don't have pain i wouldn't worry too much.

Has happened to me a few times. Once I sprained an ankle and a week later I sprained the other ankle.

You can tape the ankle to make it more stable, thats what I did :)

There are a few ways, and I think nearly all of the ones I found on google show how to tape it right after but not how to tape it to prevent you from spraining the ankle again by providing support. I'v sadly forgotten how I did my leg since its been a few years but I only needed one strip of tape and it spiraled somehow up the leg, provided just enough support.
