I hope you don't think that the Roman Legion fought in any way resembling what you saw in the begining of Gladiator. The portrayal in the movie wasn't close to reality. Legionaires wouldn't have been screaming and yelling and they wouldn't have charged in a disorganized fashion. They were the best disiplined military of the time. They were extremely well trained and organized.

Yeah, I'm very aware of that...After a year in an Ancient/Medieval AP class, that's one thing they pounded into us...the legions were VERY well trained...they didn't do the rebel yell thing...But that organization could also be their downfall...if the barbarians or whoever could close them in enough, they couldn't move around...

Go play Rome Total War

Demo is pretty sweet...haven't gotten the game yet...

The full game takes a minute to get used to but once you do, oooh boy.

There's nothing like strategically smashing other peoples empires in HUGE wars which you completely control.

Ah, the power of cheese....

I dont know if this is a joke thread, but it's certainly not funny and race has nothing to do with being Roman. That's like calling "American" a race.

It wasn't supposed (and its not) a joke thread...I just didn't know if some people would consider an ancient Roman standard thingy racist...People consider the swastika racist because of what Hitler made it into...it was a Pursian symbol for prosperity...I didn't know if someone might make it out to be something else...now I'm looking for a flag!

Put a "Native" in front of it and it most certainly is.

The swastika you are referring to was actually a reverse swastika. He created his own symbol for his hatemonger army. The real swastika is a good luck symbol.

Well, you are gloralizing the people who executed Jesus.

I dunno if that would piss me off if I was a Christian.

You need to brush up on your knowledge of things before spouting of incorrect statments. The Romans for all intents and purposes did NOT execute Jesus. As a matter of fact, Pontis Pilate questioned the Jews as to why they should crucify Jesus as he did nothing that was deemed worthy of death. It's all told in the Passion. They were executing the will of the masses.

And what kind of word is gloralizing?

If you've ever read James A. Michener's "The Source", there's an interesting section about the swastika & the Jews (irony in it's purest form): "...but no Rabbi Asher saw what his stonecutter was making: a linked series of plain crosses whose ends extended at right angles, forming a kind of heavy, squarish wheel, and as soon as the rabbi saw this motif he visualized its effectiveness as a frieze for teh inner walls of the synagogue, for the inherent movement of the wheel teased the eye forward from one point to the next.
"Perhaps we could use a line of them? Around the wall?" Asher ventured to suggest.
"That's what I was thinking," the stonecutter growleld.
"What is it?"
"I saw it in Persia. A running wheel."
"What's it called?"
"Swastika." And in this manner the notable design, common throughout Asia, became virtually the symbol of the Galilean synagogue, for all visiting rabbis who saw the effective frieze wanted swastikas for their building, too."

I am a Christian, and it doesn't tick me off...The Jews, as stated above and for all intensive purposes, executed Jesus...I don't see why Christians get so pissed off at Jews, though...Seeing riots at the Holy Sepulcr makes me mad...Christians are supposed to show Christ's love, yet they get ticked off at the Jews every time they see them...

You know better, don't you?

Yes...But look at the fact that Pilate did have a choice...As a Roman Governor, he could have stopped it, but he was forced by the Jews...

This is a dumb question. If you want the flag, buy the damn thing, who cares if someone else thinks it is racist. Are you going to be flying it from the bumper of your Dodge Shadow? It is going to hang on the wall in your basement, it isn't a big deal.

and "so many things these days are racist"

something about that isn't right or funny, I just don't quite know. I guess your out of the racism loop though, so it is understandable. We'll i'll fill you in. Bananas, lawn gnomes, and laudry detergent are now considered racist and offensive; steer clear my friend.

There are no native americans. All human life comes from Africa.
