Sports that should be in the Olympics

deftron

Lifer
Well, a few obvious ones that I'm suprised aren't

Bowling
Golf
Rugby
Billiards
Field Hockey

and a few others that would be interesting

Skateboarding
Paintball
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Chess
Surfing
Synchronized Skydiving
Video Gaming
Tug of War
Snowball Fighting
Water Skiing / Wakeboard

Rugby was in the Olympics in the early 1900's but was removed because of extreme violence.
The USA is still the reigning Olympic champs. Although we are now the world's doormat at rugby.

Bowling?

Field Hockey is pretty cool.

I've seen paintball on ESPN and bowling is more exciting.
Nothing like seeing a bunch of guys wearing camo outfits, hiding behind plywood barriers and shooting paint at each other. Yawn.
(I know there are other paintball formats but this is what ESPN chose to show. Their fault not mine.)

Snowball fighting. That's funny.

What about Hot Dog eating contests?

I personnally don't think that bowling is that intense of a sport,

but it is very popular .

Curling is in the Olympics...
It resembles bowling a little bit....shuffleboard too..
I just dont see how it made it, and bowling didn't.

Ummm... Field Hockey *is* an Olympic sport. Although it *might* have only been
a demonstration event, it certainly was included in the Sydney Olympics.

<< Curling is in the Olympics... >>

Curling is very big in Canada and Europe among an older demographic, hence it's
inclusion. It's probably the only Olympic sport where the majority of participants
are over 40.

Bowling is the #1 participant sport in the US. I'd bet it's pretty far up there in other countries, too. I just don't see how curling is in and bowling is not.

What, better than skiing with a rifle or curling?

<< Ballroom dancing in the Summer Olympics, since there's ice dancing in the winter. >>

It's already in the Summer Olympics. :Q I think the first year it was in was Atlanta, if i'm not mistaken.

Auto racing, auto racing, and auto racing. This is a hugely popular sport in many industrialized nations and I don't see why it's not in the Summer Olympics. Set it up like an IROC race where all the cars are as close to equal as is possible, it's not that hard (to set up I mean). Open-wheel is best, but a DTM, IMSA or ALMS type of race would be great too.

On the lighter side: Zamboni racing! 🙂

demolition bobsled derby

I think maybe they can make a downhill ice track with a few seperate lanes and with some nice jumping ramps, maybe they can even do some spins while in the air, and all end up crashing somehow at the end of the track. The first bobsled to cross the finish line wins.

How about they get rid of all of the "sports" that involve judging (or at least change them so they're not based on artistry), and don't exemplify their motto of higher, stronger, faster?

Put rugby in for sure.

If you go to olympic.org, you can see the IOC's list of "recognized sports". Included are activities such as lifesaving, chess, bridge, billiards... I mean come on...
