Alright, a friend at work has offered me a fairly decent deal on a 2003 Yamaha R6, two helmets, and two jackets. This is the Black R6 with Maroon Flames. His bike has 9K miles on it, and has honestly never been ridden hard (I usually ride with him). The bike is Stock, with the exception of a fender eliminator kit. No nicks or scrapes on the bike at all. All service records, etc. Newer tires.

I currently have a 2002 Honda CBR F4i with 15,000 miles on it, I believe it will need a brake job soon also. Nothing else is wrong with my bike, but I think the R6 is a beautiful bike, and really has that nice aggressive look. I can sell my bike here in Florida for around $5000.

My friend is asking $5500 for his R6. So basically, I'm looking at a $500 upgrade for a year newer bike and less miles, and doesn't need a break job.

Thoughts?

you can't go wrong with any of the sportbikes produced today (except for Buell!!! ;)). I'd say go for it, the resale will be better when you're ready to sell down the road. It's too bad a gixxer wasn't an option ;)

Honestly, I love the Gixxer's, but the stance isn't as comfortable for me....I have a similar deal on a 2004 GSXR 600, but the insurance on that is crazy.

The R6 is gorgeous, the CBR is just another bike. Trade up!

I just recently picked up my first bike, a '95 Katana 750, and have been riding the snot out of it. I'm thinking I'll ride it through next year and then move to a Yamaha myself. I wish we had a drooling smiley. :p

Is there a reason you want to do this? Seems like it would be OK since $500 gets you 1 year newer bike, 6k less miles, no mounting repairs needed, etc.

But your bike isn't very old or used either so I'd say it's up to your personal thoughts on which bike you like better.

I'm thinking that I have an expensive brake job coming up on my bike also. Besides, I'm one of those guys that gets a new cell phone every 6 months...i guess it's carrying over to my bikes also. :D This will be my 3rd bike in a year and a half.

Seems like you like the R6 and know its history. I would do it if it isn't too much of a hassle to sell your bike.

If your current bike was totaled in an accident (while parked or something, you don't get injured at all) and the insurance company cut you a big, fat, cheque, would you buy a brand new version of your bike, or would you go after the R6? There's your answer.

EDIT: This is how I've made my decisions about which cars to buy.
