Why the hell do these people make so much? I don't know who's worse, the owners, players, or the fans and corporate sponsers that continue to support the escalating payrolls. Half of the players are puffed up with juice, the other half don't give a rat's ass, and a significant number are simply criminal.

Sure fans get to enjoy the game! After shelling out big dollars for crappy uncomfortable seats, you get the chance to further your discomfort by letting the concessions and souveniors prices rip you a new one. I used to love going to the old Arlington Stadium, even if the Rangers did suck, the entry price was proportional to other forms of entertainment, affordable even on my meager PT minimum wage POS job that I had in college. Even back then, players made a lot more money than me, but it didn't bother me in the least. Now, they all make obscene gobs of cash, and the sports fan gets to pay for it every time he turns around.

Obviously there is a market for it, otherwise they wouldn't be paid so much. Maybe you should convince all of america to stop watching so much sports

they are paid that amount because the market says so. The same reason that there is not a Major League Cricket following in the US, there is no demand for it.

Agreed. The teams are paying out what the market is offering. This is unfortunate for the smaller makets, but that is how it is.

Same goes for actors and singers. Are they worth 50 million per year? The answer is yes, because that's how much they make.

Our federal government seems to be the only orginization that can get away from basic economics.

Oops... P&N comment.

I say its because fans are willing to pay the money to see the game. if fans were to revolt at escalating ticket/merchandise prices and revenue began to drop, owners will come to there senses and not offer these guys huge contracts as they will eventually be in the red.

but with things the way they are now, if my kid turns out to be 5'11 to 6'+ I'm gonna try to get him to do sports. worst case nothing and he be a normal person with a normal job, good case he gets atleast a college scholarship but gets a normal job, best case professional sports contract. where daddy wants a mere 2-5% cut. :)

but I got atleast 25 years before any kid of mine grows up and that's assuming my 1st born is a son.
