Spore, my Impressions...

After playing a bit I can tell you if you want an RTS type game, this isn't it.
This game is all about being able to create. From the creatures to the buildings and vehicles.
It is more about being able to make your creations and play a game using them. If you like to build things with Lego blocks the game will be a blast for you. It isn't about the destination with this one, but the journey.

For me I can sit here for hours just building my city capitol. Changing designs, colors, etc.
Others want to just plop it down and get to the fight. Those are the people that will be bored with Spore.

Or rather the journey is the destination. Creation is it, yup...black and white vs the sims style thing. I guess it'd be kinda cool seeing the creature you designed flailing around the world 🙂

Why am I starting to get the feeling that there was originally more to this game than what's been put out here?

I mean I really expected this be have a bad case of expansionitis, but it sure seems it should have at least started off on better footing than this - I mean 1 Resource item, c'mon?

After reading this and knowing EA's tactics and history.
I'm going to wait a few months for the SPORE PACK or whatever that contains the games & the 3 ex. packs they've released for cheaper than the original game...

ie the SimCity Box for 39.99 I just saw at Target. Man, I'd be pissed if I bought SimCity Societies when that came out....

I see people getting the game early. Any chance if we preordered the direct download that we can download it early? Anyone with any luck?

Well early for the US anyways. It's already out in Australia.

i think it will be longer than a few months though. good tactic.

It sounds like a bunch of crappy mini games glued together with its only redeeming feature being enjoyable, but ultimately pointless, creature/vehicle creation. At least, based on impressions here. Although, perhaps expecting this game have more aspects of competition in it was to much, given that it probably follows the popular sims games in a way...in that you can't actually win them. Still, with all the talk of "evolution" which is pretty much grounded entirely in competition, it doesn't seem unfair to expect a little of that!

I played through the game, got bored of space age after a few hours, uninstalled, installed master of orion 2 under dosbox, played it for 8 hours. Definitely got more enjoyment out of playing Moo2 for the 100th time than I ever got out of the 10 hours gameplay I got out of Spore. Anyone who tries to convince you that spore is better than the sum of its parts is implying that like a ham and cheese sandwich each part builds on the rest (making a great sandwich). Ultimately, the 5 stages don't really build upon each other and once your done one there is little interaction with the next, and each stage seperately is really bad gameplay that can be found in free download games or 10+ year old games. Spore tastes like plain bread and spoonfuls of mustard, not a tasty sandwich at all.

Like above poster mentioned the one good aspect of spore is the creature/vehicle/building creation, but it has almost no impact at all on gameplay (apparently 3 years wasnt long enough to add these sorts of things into the game). Probably better off buying some 3d rendering software if that's your thing.

I was going to pass on this, but there was a review of it in the newspaper that made it look pretty cool. I know what I'm doing for the next hour...

Sounds like I'll pass. Not that the game looks bad, just that it doesn't seem like it would hold my interest.

To those that played the game, just rewatch this video (you've probably seen it before)

This is why I'm disappointed. Will Wright showed so many great features, and basically implemented very few of them. Also, the art direction was a lot more realistic in the original concept, now it's been dumbed down big time.

Yes, I realize that the Spore concept was pre-rendered, but you'd imagine they could've made it closer to their original concept in the three years they had.

SPORE is a hot gaming topic right now, so I'll just say this;

Those of us who were following Spore for a while are disappointed. The game feels incomplete compared to what we were shown and promised. Also, you can get to space from cell in 6-8 hours. (Tribe stage was ridiculously short)

Those who never heard of SPORE until maybe last month or even today, will like the game for what it is. It's family friendly, light hearted, and really easy to pick up. It's an assortment of mini games that, in essence, cater to a lot of people.

Everyone so far agrees the creature creator aspect of SPORE is the funnest part.

Ratings for this game's pros and cons are spot on.

😀 That was what I wanted spore to be like, but of course with more customization and such... BUT NOPE. Spore was a letdown for me!

I didn't follow Spore. I watched one video of it a year or so ago but since then I'd all but forgotten about it..and I'm absolutely bored by it.

Watching that video again put a damper on my opinion for the game I have on my computer 🙁.

Same here. Besides, watching a video of it and then forgetting about it still counts! 😛

That's what I was mentioning in my earlier post, how upgrades allowed you to eat the protected food, etc.

Its nothing like I thought, and pretty horrible overall, I haven't played it since my original post, and I quit at stage 4, its just too boring.

Wish I would have gotten WAR, I still may.

I've hated the art style then decided to go with instead of what was originally showed.
Something I found simply dumb was, they kept talking about how you create what you want and such. But instead of making it so you can apply stats from any part you find on to another part to make the creature to look like you want, instead you Frankenstein it for stats.

After talking to a few old co-workers and watching videos and reading, I see why we never dug up a copy when I worked their to play around with like we could with most others games.
