This has happened to me twice thus far. After booting my machine after having it off, it gives me a black screen, saying that Windows isn't genuine, and giving me the option to "Get genuine", or ask me later.
The only thing is, both of these installations ARE genuine.
The first install was of Retail Win7 Home Premium (from family pack). After installing Webroot AV + AS, it gave me a message that windows wasn't genuine. I just left it alone for like five minutes, and eventually it recovered.
Just now, it was on an install of Win7 RC1 64-bit, with genuine key and activation. Booted to black screen, left it awhile, no change, so I clicked "ask me later", and then it booted to the normal desktop (if windows isn't genuine, you get a black desktop), and checking System under Control Panel, revealed that after all, it was in fact genuine.
So why is Win7 flaky about this sort of thing? Why does it give random false "not genuine" messages at bootup? You would think that MS would want to fix bugs like that, it really detracts from the user-friendliness and usability of the OS.
Edit: Installed MS Security Essentials just now on the RC1 machine, and it passed the genuine validation of that program as well.
