it is all pretty simple really, i dont know why some of you can't understand it.

1) You need to take the medallion OUT OF THE CHEST ITSELF. Passing it along does not give the curse to others.

2) Before the pirates realized they needed EVERYONE's blood who grabbed a medallion, they threw Bootstrap overboard. The pirates all repayed their debts with their blood but the curse was not lifted because Bootstrap's medallion was still missing and also his blood payment. So basically, they threw him overboard, then later found out they needed his blood cuz he also took a gold piece from the chest.

3) Since William Turner is Bootstrap's son, he is his blood, and therefore able to repay the blood debt.

4) Later, Jack Sparrow grabs medallion out of the chest and fights Barbossa. When he shoots Barbossa, he cuts himself and throws the medallion to Turner who is standing above the chest and all the blood debts are payed and all the medallions are back in. So the curse is lifted.

Yeah, seriously, I didn't want to say anything but somebody else agrees that it wasn't that difficult to understand. But whatever, sometimes I don't get stuff in movies if I goto the little boy's room or people talk too much. Also, with #3, thats why they took the girl, Kiera Knightley, to sacrifice at first because they assumed she was the offspring of Bootstrap when she said that her last name was Turner, which of course wasn't true. That is why Jack Sparrow thought that he had trading leverage because he knew that Will Turner Jr. was the person Barbossa and company needed to lift the curse. This seemed like a major story arc to me since it extended the movie considerably...

The story was fairly straightforward. You needed to take the coin from the chest to turn undead that?s why Will and Elizabeth remained mortal. The blood of the son of Bootstrap, William Turner was needed to lift the curse because they ?killed? bootstrap before they realized they?d need him to lift the curse. But this leaves one issue, if they needed Bootstrap blood to lift the curse then Bootstrap was cursed as well. Logically speaking then, the crew could have never have destroyed Bootstrap because he was cursed and immortal as well?

So?

I got the rest of the movie but the one part about Bootstrap Bill confused me. So if they shot him out of the cannon into the ocean technically he is still alive right? He is undead so it's not like he can die, he would still be lying under the ocean. Couldn't they just have recovered him and used his blood instead of going through all that trouble? I mean, they spent so much time looking for each and every gold coin (I think the movie said it was like 800), looking for some guy in the ocean won't be hard.

I have some thoughts on what happened to Bootstrap Sr.

First off, just because you're immortal doesn't mean you can't be dismembered. During the last parts of the movie, during the long fight you'll remember a number of the pirates had body parts cut off and such. In the fight in the main chamber Will stuck a bomb inside one of the pirates and blew him up. Now they weren't dead, sure, but they were in pieces. I think if Bootstrap had been shot out of a cannon he most likely would have been in more than one piece as well.

Secondly, he was sent to the bottom of the ocean in all likelihood. Not all of the ocean floor is nice and flat. He may have been unable to get to the surface in 10 years, and even if he had he would be hard pressed to find the ship. Also, let's not discount some sea creature coming along and eating him.

Finally, I think the curse may not have set in immediately. You'll remember that Barbosa said they spent it on food, hookers and booze when they got it, but the inability to feel didn't set in until a while later. It may be that the curse was only awakened by people spending the gold and Bootstrap was killed before they'd come to port. (The curse was active when Jack took a piece from the chest, hence why he was undead for a while)

P.S. It sounds like they shot Bootstrap out in open ocean, meaning he could have been thousands of feet down were he still alive. It would be damn near impossible to get him were that the case.
