SPOILER ALERT!!!!

In Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Count Dooku speaks with the captured Obi-Wan Kenobi and reveals to Obi-Wan how the Senate is being controlled by a Sith Lord. Dooku also reveals that Qui-gon had been his apprentice. Lastly, Dooku asks for Obi-Wan's help in stopping the Sith Lord.

What do you think?

1. Dooku really does want to stop Palpatine (for unknown reasons).
2. Dooku is just trying to lure Obi-Wan to the dark side and is lying about trying to stop Palpatine.
3. Something completely different.

I'm not certain there was enough evidence in the film to give a definitive answer.

Considering the fact that Dooku lured all those Jedi to be slaughtered in the arena, I'd have to say he really is a bad guy. As for what his intentions were in talking to Obi-Wan... I have no idea.

you're right on there not being enough evidence in this film. In the backstory, it elaborates as to why there are only 2 Sith Lords, always. The apprentice will take out his master, become the master and take on his own apprentice. And the cycle continues. I think Dooku wanted to see if Obi Wan would take the bait, and become his apprentice. In Phantom Menace, Yoda alludes to this by saying something regarding the Siths, "Always two there are."

But the thing is, Dooku's Master is Darth Sidious/Palpatine/The Emporer, isn't it? (dangit, a SW detail i'm not sure about!?) And we know that Palpatine isn't killed by Dooku, but Anakin, rather.

Okay, I lost my train of thought.......I guess from already knowing that fact, we should've known that Obi-Wan would turn down his offer?

another bonehead move by Lucas, DO WE ACTUALLY SEE ANY JEDI DIE ON SCREEN? They should have shown a few Jedi like Conehead Wilford Brimley and PHAT Dread Locks Jedi get killed.

I don't think Dooku intended for Obi Wan to be his apprentice because one of the deleted scenes involved him asking Amidala to join his side too. It doesn't make much sense why he would ask them in the first place because it seems that Palpatines plan was to get both sides to go to war in able to give him more and more power over the republic, and if they had joined him that might have upset the plan. In his speach to Obi Wan I got the impression that Qui Gon was with him in some way or another before he died so maybe Dooku has a side agenda that isn't the same as the Emperors?

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense :)

Here's my take.

Lucas is following a formula. Episode 2 had quite a few parallels to Episode 5 - a budding romance, a "rescue" that wasn't really needed, a Skywalker losing his arm. Obi-Wan somewhat took Luke's place, and he was the one offered a position as a Sith.

I think what we're going to see in Episode 3 is going to parallel 6 in a lot of ways, but what will be different will be this - Anakin will face Dooku and Sidious, but instead of having the strength to let the Sith Apprenctice live, this Skywalker will kill him (Dooku) and take his place. Whether or not this is before or after Vaderization, I dunno.

not much of the movie made sense.

who ordered the clone army, then completely forgot about it? (same person who deleted it from the archives?)
does dooku want obi wan to join the dark side or does he want Obi Wan to help him get rid of the dark side?
also, did they get married at the end, with the jedi knowing about this? (against the jedi code)

The clone army was probably ordered by Dooku or Palpatine under the false name of Sifo-Diyas so they would think the order was really from a Jedi. Nobody forgot about it, they had been working for 10 years to build up an army so Palpatine could use it to his advantage.

Dooku may have his own agenda aside from Palpatine's ... I suspect if this is the case, Episode 3 will answer this question.

I would bet that Anakin and Padme got married w/o the Jedi coucil knowing. My friend seems to think that Padme was supposed to be pregnant in that scene too, but I don't remember (he said she looks chunkier than in the rest of the movie) :)

So does that mean we have to suffer through Padme in a metal bikini tied to a giant slug?

Ok, this is my take on it.

Dooku wants to kill Sidious and take over. He wants Obi-Wan to help him, and become his apprentice. This is how the sith operate.

I mean, watch the Original Trilogy.... Its all about Palpatine trying to get Luke so he can wax Vader, and Vader trying to get luke, so he can wipe out Palpatine. This is just the same thing, only Dooku wants Obi-Wan, while Palpatine is going after Anakin.

What I think will happen is that Anakin will turn, and Palpatine will have him kill Dooku.

That makes sense.... I think Count Dooku just wants to rule the galaxy and that means he needs the help of folks like Obi-Wan against Palpatine to pull it off.

I agree, but with a little more backstory it makes more sense to me. During the time of the movies, there are at most two sith, a master and an apprentice. In order for the apprentice to achive the rank of master, he must kill his master. And with or without help, that will be the goal of the apprentice since one of the lures of the dark side is the thought that this will lead you down the path to ultimate power. In Dooku's case, he knows he's no match for his master, but perhaps, with the help of Obi, he will have the ability to overthrow his master (Palpatine) and probably either kill Obi or make Obi his apprentice. Although he's manipulating Obi to think that he doesn't have anything to do with the dark side, deception and deciet is part of the dark side :-D

On my second viewing of AOTC, I did notice that when Obi Wan asks Jango Fett who chose him as the model for the clones he said that someone named Tyranus found him. We all know Darth Tyranus is Count Dooku so in some way Siddious/Palpatine is behind the ordering of the clones.
