Split This Forum!

I think we need to split this forum up. I think this forum should have one category just for prebuilt notebook/laptop/palm/etc computers and another forum just for SFF computers. I think these are 2 entirely different subjects that need to be split up.

I think possible SFF builders or enthusiasts do not like to weed through all of the Notebook questions like what is the most powerful Notebook computer? What is the cheapest laptop Computer, etc. In fact maybe someone can write a LAPTOP/NOTEBOOK FAQ just for those 2 questions. An article on where to find inexpensive laptop computers might make a nice read for a lot of people. Other topics might be comparison of Battery life VS superior performance.

I think this forum is great in many ways because this category separates the gaming computer questions from the protable computer questions. However, SFF computers are often both portable and small. The HTPC questions are also a whole nother topic worthy of their own FAQ.

Splitting the SFF, NOTEBOOKS, PRE-BUILT/BAREBONES PCS forum could be a good idea. We need Anand's input to add forums. I sent him a link to this thread for his input.

Ohh... now I realize .. why did I feel so weird about this forum ...

THERE's NO SEPARATE NOTEBOOK forum ..

I'm a fan of these forums, but I actually gave up on them for sff stuff for this very reason. I think splitting would be a good idea.

I think we need to split it in three ways, notebook, prebuilt pcs like from dell, falcon, alienware etc and SFF since there seems to be soooo many notebook questions vs sff and prebuilt seems to be non existant cept from me lol.

I agree. I've thought the same thing since this subforum was first started. There's really no connection between the topics.

there is a connection. They're both small. If you guys have it your way then every person crying to their own little niche in the forums will end up with 1000 different sub forums

Deal.

Exactly. That's no connection at all. There's no common information to be shared from one category to the other, so the section is cluttered up with essentially off-topic threads which make it harder to find relevant information.

Plenty of other hardware forums don't have a problem with seperate Notebook and SFF forums. In fact, I think AT is the only one I frequent where they lump together these unrelated categories.

<sarcastic sound in voice>

yeah, I can see how they're connected.

one is the type of system that sits on your desk and the other is the type of system that you can carry with you just about anywhere you dang well please.

again, I can see how they're connected.

I think that 1) this belongs in Forum Issues, and 2) the forum is fine the way it is. Although they are two distinct topics, Look at the number of posts here and compare with the busier forums like FS and Hot Deals. Its not like its overflowing with posts or anything.

I agree that this probably belongs in forum issues. However, I think that the fact sff and laptops are one forum is the reason for the lack of posts. I know that I, for one, don't visit this form much simply because I don't like sifting through all the laptop stuff when I'm interested in sff. I know the reply "use the search button" will come up, but a lot of the most interesting stuff I have come across has just been from opening interesting topics I see.

SPLIT IT!! I own an sff and i go to other forums to talk about them just because i dont want to look for topics that are sff related.
