split screen games?

Is there any good games with split screen for pc? My buddy and I want to play something, but we only have one computer. What are some of the games out there that can be played with one computer using controllers or two mice if it's possible. Does serious sam support this?

SS and/or SS:SE does; I don't think SS: HD does.

doubtful you'll find much if anything recent anyway. a pc is meant for 1 person. you should be playing consoles.

Games such as Worms (in one of its many iterations) or Blood Bowl offer hot-seat options. Obviously, it does depend on the sort of games you want... only turn-based does this 😀

The only real issue I have with split screen is if your screen is quite small to start with.

Other split-screen games: Stepmania (Dance-dance revolution clone for Win/Linux) :awe:
Also, some of the earlier Settlers games did split screen (the original definitely IIRC)

Need for Speed 2 SE. 😀

I spent many hours playing NFS split-screen w/ my siblings.

Shit man..most consoles nowadays mainly multiplayer online.. I mean obviously there are split screen 2 player games..but really there has been a huge move to make people use the online services.

Nah, I think that with more and more people integrating the PC into their personal living space games should start to be pushed towards having a co-op split screen option.

I wouldn't personally use it at this point, but I believe that it's inevitable that we will all have PC's in our living rooms at some point (heck, it could be argued that we already do).

I have a game for you although it isn't split screen. Instead co-op uses the same screen (players are confined within the same screen kinda Contra style) in Shadowgrounds Survivor. It's a top-down perspective game with Diablo mechanics in a sci-fi setting with guns and aliens. The gameplay is okay when I tried it out, but probably more fun when you're sharing the experience with a buddy.

It's available on Steam for $14.99, but I think it was on sale awhile back for under $5. I linked to the demo so that you can try it out first.

no new games support split screen huh. Serious sam would be fun with two people. Have to check that out.

Emulated console games will support split screen.

I wish more games supported split screen though, especially with the rise in popularity of HTPCs and since powerful, high-res pcs could more easily handle split screen gaming than consoles.
Gears of War missed out by removing coop from the PC version.
Left 4 Dead can be hacked to enabled split screen.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance supports coop on the same computer, think everyone just ends up on a single screen though.

Twisted Metal 2 did. Maybe a few of the other TMs as well.

edit: PS2 version did, would assume the PC version would also.

who wants to play split screen on a 19-20" monitor though? your screen will be so small you can't see anything.

i always hated playing split screen on consoles too because of the limited view, plus if you're playing against the the person, you can both see where the other one is, or is doing, etc.

I can personally vouch for L4D working fine with a 360 controller for the second player. I've played with friends/family on my computer before. It also works online, though the second player cannot join lobbies (unless they fixed it). You just need to have a slot open when the game starts so you can connect your second player.

I cannot vouch for this one. I haven't tried it, but it looks like they actually made it harder to do. I also don't see anything about playing online, which is odd. You'd think after the first game had 84 pages of interest in the one thread, they'd add better functionality.
