Split a cat5 cable ?

Is it possible to split a cat 5 cable?

I ran a cable to a room which was not wired when we moved in... There are no extra ports to use for phone connection, so I would like to share the connection with a stand alone fax machine we have.

The new cable I ran terminates on the same patch panel as the line that the fax machine is on.

Is there a way to connect them at the patch panel so that they share the single phone port?

Thanks!

Not if you want it to work properly. It might "work" but it will limit the connection to 100mbps and will be flaky due to the foreign noise on the wire from the phone system.

IE: Pull another cable.
