Splinter Cell (Xbox) is the most immersive game ever created

I've been playing this for the past couple days, and it never ceases to amaze me.

First of all, the graphics are incredible. The environments are second to none. No other game, on any platform (PC included) looks this damn good...especially the lights and shadows. The character models are good, but not revolutionary. Screenshots don't do this game justice. Has to be seen to be believed. No wonder IGN gave this game three 10's :Q

Next, the sound is the best use of Dolby Digital 5.1 I've seen in a game. I have my xbox hooked up to my home theater, and playing this game w/ the lights out can be a frightening experience.

This is truly a game that must be played in the dark, on the biggest screen possible, with surround sound. I don't think I could get this "into it" if I was playing it on my PC.

The sheer number of things you can do gameplay wise is incredible. Sam has tons of cool gadgets to use, and a slew of special moves he can perform that are CRUCIAL to winning the game. The focus is on stealth. If you just run around shooting anyone, you won't make it 5 minutes into the game. You get a huge sense of accomplishment when passing a level, because at first glance it looks IMPOSSIBLE to sneak by undetected. Sometimes you have to use your gun, but you have to make sure you get a perfect head shot, and then quickly hide the body out of sight or else you're dead.

The game is full of memorable moments....

Imagine getting busted while trying to sneak away from some guards, then making a run for it to an open manhole, quickly sliding down the ladder into the sewers as the guys above open fire on you. Now you think you're safe as you can hear the guys above talking about your escape. While making your way through the sewer, the water and sewage makes too much noise so you have to get out of it and walk on the small concrete walkway. With infrared nightvision on and walking silently through the sewer, you hear something faint off in the distance. You stop and listen...realize that you are not alone down here and take off the night vision goggles and look down the long dark sewer...

then you see a guy off in the distance slowly making his way towards you with the most realistic in-game flashlight you've ever seen in your life. There's no time to panic, you gotta figure out something fast....

NOW PLAY THE DAMN GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.1 in game is such a hot number that I can't even bring words to it.

Have you seen MGS2 on PS2? I Played both games including the Xbox splinter cell demo but I was wondering how the graphics compare, since I was only playing splinter cell through composite at the time and have not tried since I got the component video going.

Yes I've seen MGS2, and played it...IMO Splinter Cell is better. Gameplay and graphics.

The Splinter Cell demo doesn't do the game justice. I wasn't totally impressed when I played it, but all the extra praise I read convinced me to buy it and I'm not disappointed.

And the demo represents a very small chunk of the game. It's a few levels into it. I think there is 9 missions, and about 3-5 levels per mission. They say 30 hours of gameplay to beat it on normal mode, but I know it will take me longer. I think it's because I take my sweet time and like to do them perfectly. Sneaking up behind guys and putting them into a choke hold with a gun to their face and interrogating them is fun :D Then pistol whipping them and dragging the body off to a dark corner, and continue on your way...:D

I played the game until 4 a.m. last night and I still didn't make it into the police station. :) I'm used to deathmatch and run and gun type games so the stealth is taking some getting used to. Amazing game so far.

Right now the Xbox version is the only one available. The PC version takes a lot more work (mainly because of compatability issues) so it will be out sometime in January, 2003 according to GameSpot.

Is there anyway to invert the controls? Didn't see it in the options menu but I read it would be available in the final version.

Yep they let you invert, thankfully.

As for the 30 hours of gameplay, Bull-honkey! I'm almost done with it and I've played for about 10 hours total.

Yeah, I saw shipment dates on amazon. Sucks, since that would've been a nice christmas present :)

I almost wished I had bought this instead of MechAssault. MA is fun and all, but the game lacks depth that obviously Splinter Cell has. Well at least I know what I want for Christmas :)

Im about 8-10 hours into it and have gotten to level 4 (of 9). The game is great. Everyone who has an xbox has to check it out. Without a doubt a AAA game.

The pc version is currently expected at the end of January.

Someone called? (albeit a different spelling) :D

I don't have an Xbox myself, but I'm definitely going to give this and mechassault a try next time I drop by my cousin's house. I enjoyed MGS2 even though I never got to finish it, but it looks like this will be pretty fun too.

it's an advent tv. (same guys who make the speakers i believe altho the sound on this set doesn't suggest that). it's a pretty nice set for 200 bucks. flat screen 20". the sound is way lacking but i'm using headphones anyway.
website.

the picture is good even tho i haven't really calibrated it yet, it has svideo and component in (i'm using the svideo, i bought the kit before i realized i'd have a tv with component in) and a headphone/2nd a/v in jack on the side, instead of the front where's it's kinda in the way. the model is q2035a. best buy sells it for 199. i've never seen advent tvs before, but apparently it's the same company created by henry kloss, around since 1967.

and yeah, that is a 337 (tho not mine) and i am a vortexer. i drive a 01 gti vr6. :)
