Metal Gear Solid : The Twin Snakes (looks ok, obviously cant compare to Splinter Cell, but might be worth a rental)

Huh? I don't know where you have been, but TTS is based heavily on the original MGS, which raked in GOTY awards. It uses the story of the original with the graphics and gameplay improvements of the SoL. That is a combination that will eat Splinter Cell alive.
I dont think so. Not by a long shot.
All the MSG games of recent times, from PS1 to GC versions, while good in their own right, arn`t proper Steath games, theres an awful lot you can get away with in it. You dont play to the level design, the guards seem a little dumb. Its easy to sneak past guards, you can take alot of bullets before your down, ect;
Its more of a "Arcade Stealth" game. Which while good for some people, isn`t what others are looking for in a Stealth game. I for one refer the realism that SC brings.
SC atm, is the ultimate steath game to date. And PT will enhanse its position further.

There is no other choice. It's Splinter Cell hands down. As you said, MGS is more of an action type feel to it.

MGS is a little to "naff" for me.
Its a good game, but its more a pick up and play game, where the games design is very forgiving. Its very cartoony.
Where as SC is very atmospheric, tence, plays on its stealth well, isnt very forgiving, and is very realistic.

They are both good games, i aint denying that, but for Stealth, be it MGS1, MGS2, MGS:TS, Splinter Cell blows them out of the water completely.

?Cartoony? it is not. MGS is a stealth based game as well albeit it doesn't have the same feel as SC. It has a storyline that is more involving IMO than Splinter Cell.

SC loads the entire level at once so if you alert a guard, it is harder to get away and hide than it is in MGS where you can just move onto the next screen where it loads. You get away with a bit more in MGS than in SC and that is why I think SC is more "stealthy" than MGS.

Yeah, but I have played MGS. I haven't played Splinter Cell (to any length, demos don't count)

theres only certian points that this happens at. for the most part they follow you all over the place. you go and hide in a locker and they come in and kill you

Splinter Cell:
importance of stealth - 4/5
story development - 1/5
gameplay pace - 1/5

MGS:
importance of stealth - 2/5
story development - 4/5
gameplay pace - 3/5

At least that's how I'd break it down. I think SC is more of a tactician's game (which I like) but there are just some times when I want to go apesh*t and take a socom/famas/grenade+grenade+grenade to any and everybody. :)

And there haven't been any plans announced to have SC2 on PC, right?

Splinter Cell all the way. One of the most enjoyable games I've played in quite some time. The graphics didn't hurt of course but if was an excellent game overall.

Splinter cell was a better game by far. Much more of a challenge as well as better controll.

Metal gear solid was more fun though, and had a more interesting plot.

Everytime I play SC I feel like I should have the ability to knock on the wall. That was an excellent feature of MGS.

I was fooled! I didn't see (all versions!) I would've voted Splinter Cell. MGS was goofy stealth, MGS2 was just stupid.

The true beauty of MGS2 is in the choices you have how you accomplish your objectives. You can go with all guns blazing and kill every enemy in sight, or you can try to complete your tasks without harming anyone. The replay value of MGS2 is unparalleld.

Splinter Cell. The Metal Gear games just had a weird feel about them. Maybe it was the boring graphics or the crappy movement options or the crappy field of vision --I can't stand being shot by someone who's standing in front of me but I still can't see them because they're too far up to be on the screen.
